OK, first of all, everyone has prejudices.
Being professional on the job and dealing with each person as not only a unique individual, but also with respect overcomes any prejudices that any officer of any color might have.

There really isn't an true set way to do that. I do know that they are given psy. tests to evaluate them, as far as their personalities and such.

Remember police are people and not every one of them are going to be perfect and always do the right thing. The ones that are bad stick out like sore thumbs, and make it bad for the really good police officers, these officers hopefully end up being removed from the force so that they can not continue to with in this line of work. Not every one is meant to be in a position such as this, to do this type of work.

There are a lot of really good police officers out there who are good at what they do, and they do their jobs with out prejudice. These are the officers that know how to protect and serve their communities, they take pride in what they do and how they do it and they are the truly good guys.

God bless, hope this helps you out.

this is impossible since it's part of human nature. what we can do is make it harder on cops who are racists or prejudiced against anyone. that's why we have internal affairs. the police and the military both work for us, not the other way around and if we want either to change then we have to vote and lobby our politicians to make the changes we want.
one other thing is to work with the police in your communities. when they have officers from their areas who know the people , speak the language and know the streets you will have people more willing to trust them instead of using this don't snitch crap. try to organize events with the police, maybe community baseball or whatever with them. get to know who THEY are.

There is no one who is not prejudiced in some form or another. The best we can strive for is control of prejudices, and elimination of improper or unfair discrimination by our law enforcement personnel.

We can't. But police applicants are required to take psychological profiles. And these are repeated if there are problems with performance or complaints. That's the best we can hope for.

Being Hispanic, I approach cops and they talk to me like I come from the projects.

Being a professional, educated woman with a graduate degree instead, I will do again what I already tried for the first time a few nights ago, when I pulled my cell phone out of my backpack and pointed the video camera at a cop treating me like dirt, as they commonly do with profiled citizens.

Boy if you want to see a 6'3", 250lb tough cop turn into a kitty cat, you got to videotape him interacting with you!

So there is our defense against profiling, a humble video camera...And your evidence just in case the situation escalates...

Diversify your police force. When people work together they will become close (hopefully) regardless of their differences.
