Fish - December 2007

This isn't one of my tanks, but it is certainly an interesting assortment of fish. What are your thoughts? Are you as amused as I was? In this internet access age, how can people make such egregious mistakes?

I have it in a 2 gallon (as yet unheated - stupid f-ing LFS had the order delayed for an extra week) with 3 mountain minnows and they're fine.

I might want to put a betta in my community tank ( 28L, 3 cories, 7 neon tetras ). My question is, how harmful would it be to my current betta to move it into that tank and then later back to the two gallons? How long should I leave it there? A week?

By the time it goes back in it will have a heater.

hi i have a 25 gallon tank, and last night when i turned off the lights, the the temperature dropped. (the heater did not do a very good job) i'd like to know if its okay for my fish so i can make sure they are not stressed. i have a redtail catfish, and three angelfishes.

I just bought a basic aquarium setup from Petland. It was the same one they had at our Wal-Mart but just a bit cheaper at about 30 bucks.
My question is....how many fish can I have in the tank? Do I need a heater? And is it really all I need in the box?
I also do not want to do much work with this so should I have went smaller?

I have a Beta fish and i had recently brought him home from being at my office since the day i had bought him... I washed his tank and gave him new water. He hasnt eaten for 3 days and he just sits at the top corner of the tank. He doesnt swim around and sometimes hell just sink to the bottom as if he is sleeping.. Can you please tell me if he is ok and if not how can i make him well again? Thank you !!

My daughter needs to know the name of the fish with the big head that looks like a brain. She thinks they are called brainiacs but we can't find anything on them. name of fish with links to information/pictures about them would be very useful!! Thanks

my betta fish has black stuff (gills?) sticking out of it's gill plate. it just goes in, out, in, out....is that normal breathing? or should it appear to be not moving at all or should it not even be appearing?? please state the reliability of your knowledge. (ie, you've had bettas for however many years, you're a vet, some fish expert, etc...)

(that's not my betta btw, it's just the only pic i could find that shows clearly what i'm referring to)

My betta is eating flakes and swimming around happily. I'm feeding it flakes because whenever I put the betta food in, my mollies end up eating it. My betta seems to like the flakes anyway. I'm asking this question because I know that bettas are carnivores.

I got some 'rosey red' (or something like that) minnows from the fish store place and already, two of them [after only having them for a day] seemed to get a crooked body and soon after, die. I don't know if it's some sort of disorder or something... but I got them to feed to my softshell turtle and I don't want to feed him bad fish. I was wondering if it could be some sort of fish tuberculosis tumor... PLEASE HELP!!!

after a severe loss of stock because bad information through a certain franchise pet store in Glasgow i lost about £120 worth of my precious fish and that was only about twenty fish now i have about 8 left and one of those is my favourite the bgk is there any way of breeding this fish and sexing it
as i am really fond of it and would change my complete set up for it when i got it it was 1 1/2 inches long and i have took pride in it growing twice its size in a fortnight also what food and how much should i be feeding it daily so far ive done alright on flake which i dont think it eats and pellets from a shop i have came to trust and bought the pellets from but my only concern now is the well being of the bgk

i have a 30g tank and i plan on putting mainly tetras in it. I have a filter heater and gravel, and a light. I cant get any more light than i already have so i have a few questions...

*Is getting a CO2 maker thing really helpful(Jungle CO2 Fizz Factory)?

*What are some prices on driftwood? Is natural driftwood really worthwhile?

i got the baby a 1.5 gal aquarium for Christmas. I already have plant, filter, bubble rock, heater, rocks, and everything else i need to set up..so my Q is, what kind of fish should i get for her? I was thinking maybe a Blue Tang, but IDK if a 1.5 US Gal tank is too small it make a salt water. Is it? and if i do get the tang...will just one be ok by itslef?

My betta has a new ten gallon tank with a undergravel filter but the water is all murky (a whiteish color) right now, he is floating in a bowl with newly conditioned tap water that is in the tank. the tank is three days old, but the filters have only been working since 9oclock last night. will he be safe if i let him swim in the ten gallon tank or is it too dangerous. i want him to be happy

i was thinking about making my own but i was wondering how you get on with them and if they produce any other gases. I was going to use my own because i only have about 10 plants that don't really need co2. I was going too switch it on while the lights are on and then switch on an air pump next to it to break the water surface. Should i add an airstone too the end to produce finer bubble or will it be ok. I have read about putting through your filter to make even finer bubbles but in the fluval 205 handbook it says to not have any air bubbles near the intake, what do you use and is there any other co2 diffusers.

I was at the pet shop today and saw fish called 'kilifish' which where in a coldwater tank, I tried researching kilifish and it comes up with loads of diffrent kinds, It also says that they are algae eaters, and eat hairy algae, Does anyone know anything about them or have information abou them?
