My betta is eating flakes and swimming around happily. I'm feeding it flakes because whenever I put the betta food in, my mollies end up eating it. My betta seems to like the flakes anyway. I'm asking this question because I know that bettas are carnivores.

Bettas can absolutely have tropical fish flakes, considering that they are tropical fish. However, to recognize their carnivorous habits, a once or twice weekly feeding of bloodworms or other meaty foods is good and can help prevent constipation (the change of foods helps prevent it). Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

first of all do not give them frosted flakes. Second mollies and bettas can co-exist.

Third the betta is going to live happy and for a long time with only flakes, but to asure the betta's strenght give him once in a while preferable once a week, betta pebbles, or frozen foods.

yes a betta can live successfully on flakes but you should try giving him a few live foods or freezedried bloodworms every now and then maybe a little lettuce as well. my current betta (evil jared) lived off bloodworms, shrimp and lettuce until i added barbs, mollies, and platies to my tank, now they all eat flakes but i still give them bloodworms and lettuce for variety

Most fish flakes have fish meal protein in them, so yes, your Bettas CAN live off flakes. Will they? Probably not. They are finicky eaters and prefer frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp and betta bites.

Since your beta is in a communal tank and it likes the flakes and looks healthy, I'd say okay. I had a beta in a round bowl and I would collect mosquito larvae from outside buckets using a turkey baster. He loved chasing them down and sucking them into his mouth.

Look at the ingredient list on the flakes. If the first 5 or so ingredients are some kind of meat then it's fine, it they aren't then you really shouldn't be feeding that food in the first place.

Yes, bettas can live off of flakes just fine. Be VERY careful putting a beta in with any kind of fish, they aren't carnivores that I know if, but they're very territorial and called a fighter fish for a reason. That said they shouldn't be in a tank with mollies, but in their own little tank. Another reason is that betas need special chemicals put in their water. I owned one once, and when I didn't make sure they got said chemicals it died :(

You REALLY should have the betta and the mollies in separate tanks, you know....
