Can you rewrite the question so we can read it? Also, they are called Siamese Fighting Fish (Bettas), not Japanese Fighting Fish. You can keep them with pretty much any peaceful, slow-moving, short-finned fish that won't bother the Betta. Bettas attack fish with long fins because they are easily mistaken as other Bettas, encroaching on their territory, so Neon Tetras, Cories, Kuhli Loaches, other Tetras, Rasboras, and livebearers (NOT Fancy Guppies) make great tankmates.

EDIT: Though inducing flaring with a mirror may be "fun" for you, it is very stressful for the fish. If you want it to be more active, get it at LEAST a 2.5 gallon tank with a heater and filter so it actually has some room to swim in nice, warm, clean water (Bettas naturally inhabit waters that are often above 80*).

I'm not sure exactly what the question is but you have to be careful in mixing fish with a Betta. Not only will they attack other fish but any of the fish that a tail nippers will be after the Betta.

The Betta's tend to be really moody. I had a couple of female guppies in with one and everything was fine for about a month. Suddenly one night while I was watching them the Betta decided to attack the guppies and killed both of them before I could get a net.

Betta's also need warm water so if you live in an area where winter is setting in and don't have a heater your fish could be slowing down because the water is too cold.

The responder with the mirror is right. That would work while it would be fun to watch... just make sure the fish notices the mirror.

You could try placing a mirror in front of it...if it is alive it will display...it's very cool...sometimes those fish just sit there too...here's a trick for you to teach it...everyday for about two weeks...turn a light on it...then show it the mirror...then on the third week it should diplay just to the light...try it out...it will be fun!!!

Is it alive? Maybe it just needs feeding.

I used to have one. They sometimes just sit in the water, not moving much. I sometimes tapped on the glass to make sure he was alive. But nothing was ever wrong. Maybe that's what yours is doing. Sometimes they just don't swim much.
