my betta fish has black stuff (gills?) sticking out of it's gill plate. it just goes in, out, in, out....is that normal breathing? or should it appear to be not moving at all or should it not even be appearing?? please state the reliability of your knowledge. (ie, you've had bettas for however many years, you're a vet, some fish expert, etc...)

to see what "black stuff" i'm referring to, go here: http://nippyfish.blogspot.com/ scroll down to the very bottom and click "older posts" and then scroll all the way down to the last picture. you will see the black stuff around the gill plate that i'm talking about. (that's not my betta btw, it's just the only pic i could find that shows clearly what i'm referring to)

and if it's perfectly normal to have the "gills" go in and out, about what should be the normal rate..like seriously, looking at your own fish and counting how many seconds pass between each time the "gills" go back in.

The "black stuff" is simply part of his gills, so there's no need to worry. :)

As long as your betta doesn't look like he's panting, you don't have to worry about his breathing. I couldn't tell you exactly how many breaths per minute they take, but perhaps one breath per second or slightly slower should be fine.

There are actual way extra suitable than 2 kinds of betta tail kinds. Veil, halfmoon, delta, super delta, around and crown are the main uncomplicated. I f you obtain yours at a puppy save, odds are very sturdy that's a veiltail. it is quite impossible to tell for beneficial till the Betta is "flaring" or spreding his fins. because of the fact the something, it is actual have been given some butterfly in it is history, yet i would not call it a butterfly, the colour is going slightly too faar in it is fins. maximum exhibits might classify that as a non purple Multi colour, meaning maximum persons of it is shade is from non-purple colour sources and it has extra suitable than 2 colorations on it is physique. (colorations on the fins don;t count selection for this manner. And it seems completely healthful to me. MM

Check out the link below. Look for these 2 products: Binox and General Care. Binox is for bacterial and fungal infections and General Care is for external and internal infections. Hope this helps.

It looks normal to me. I had many bettas in my life and most of them seem to have them. They all lived more than a two years. I don't know what it is, but I'm sure it is fine.
