Fish - December 2007

I have 2 Sail Finned Mollies. one is chasing the other one round the tank. He/she is also doing some sort of dance around the other one. His/hers fins are fully opened and he/she is swimming round the other one. the other one points up towards the top of the tank and seems to bend to the side when this is happening. Also how do you tell the sex of Tiger
Barbs?

I have a yellowish orange guppy fish, she has a beautiful bright orange tail, today I noticed she is sooo fat, like she can barley swim because her belly is so big it just seems to pull her down, when I look at her belly it seems to have a bunch of black spots in it. I'm of course guessing she is pregnant, But how do I know when she is in labor? Like now she is just rocking.

We just lost 2 more goldfish that were thriving in our 10 gallon tank. This is the 3rd batch we've lost after changing water. The others may have been due to temperature issues, but we were very careful this time. When we changed the water, we made sure the temperature was the same but within a few minutes they were floating. They were doing so good and growing until we changed the water. We have city water with a water softener. Do we dare try this again?

I have been having trouble with my fish tank and I was wondeirng if the people hired in pet shops, like PetsSmart of some where are professionals or just kids that needed a job...I need to talk to someone who nows what they are doing.

I had just put in new carbon in my filter about 2 weeks ago. My fish are flashing and I have had parasites before so I decided to treat them with Aquarisol to be on the safe side. My question is.......if I rinsed my filter carbon real well and allowed it to completely dry, will it be ok to put BACK in my filter when it's time to put the carbon back after treatment?

Please, I'm not looking for people to say "I don't know" just to get points, I'm looking for a real answer or opinion to this question.

This forum is getting too out of control with stupid responses to honest questions and trolls who run around thumbs downing people for no good reason. I hope the people who run this forum start cracking down on the people who cheat. I apologize, I just had to get that out. I do not participate here too much but I do see what is going on.

Anyway, thanks in advance to anyone who has a good answer for me about this.

I have recently gotten a 10 gallon aquarium and my children picked out their fish. I have one large goldfish and a Gourami Fish, I am wanting to know if these two fish are compatiable in this size of aquarium or if I need to by a smaller aquarium for the Gourami Fish.

It bugs me so much! i get this weird algae that acts like a thin membrane over my sand and my plants and my rocks. I can pick up pieces of it with my hands but it's not very effective. I've tried syphoning it out but i can only suck up so much before my tank loses too much water [i have a 10 gallon].

But ya, can anyone identify this type of algae and prescribe possible solutions?

e have had our fish tank for about 7 months and now our tank is blurry after our last water change. we have a master water test kit and all is well we added 2 mickey mouse fish and 6 snails after our last molly died about 2 weeks ago can anybody tell me what is doing this it had never been blurry like this before . was snails a bad idea? i don't know what to do?

i forgot to add that the water smells like... umm..... murkey like lake water type smell not sure how to tottaly explain it and also i haev used those drops they work for like 5 hours and then back to cloudy

Im not sure what fish to add to my tank. Any ideas? Currently i have:
2 Glass Catfishes
1 Red Swordtail
3 Silver Tetras
1 4-inch pleco
1 Neon Blue Gourami
1 5-inch Dojo Loach

I really do like the female bettas and Bumblebee Blow fish but alas i really dont think they will make good tankmates. Any suggestions other than guppies/platys? thanks to everyone.

I tried breeding my guppies once, and ended up with about 30 fry, which all died within 3 weeks. I kept them in a separate tank than the adults, without filtration, but changed their water regularly. They were fed ground up flakes. What should I have done differently?

I need help on stocking my cycled 30g long tank. I'm doing a fishless cycle. I want to stock it with semi-aggressive fish because I want to learn how to take care of them like I learned how to take care of my guppies, platies, and CAE. So I noticed it the other day when I was feeding my fish in my 10 gal tank. I was concerned but I said I will give it a another day ! Well the Tetra has this thing on its like lip but it is a little bit lower and it grew. It is white and it is sticking out !. I do put aquarium salt in my aquarium.

You think it is a parasite ? I am not sure but I think il go over the the petsmart by my house and by bowl buddies that cures parsite in and out plus ICK

I am worried please tell me what to do ?
