I have a yellowish orange guppy fish, she has a beautiful bright orange tail, today I noticed she is sooo fat, like she can barley swim because her belly is so big it just seems to pull her down, when I look at her belly it seems to have a bunch of black spots in it. I'm of course guessing she is pregnant, But how do I know when she is in labor? Like now she is just rocking.

You will know when she has them cause billions of little fish will shoot out of her at like three or so at a time I wouldn't worry about it.

Actually, some female guppies have a brightly covered tail, you could still have a female.

The easiest way to tell if she is pregnant would be a "large" blackspot almost right behind her belly. Its a gravid spot/marking that will be one blob of black.

It sounds like you have a pregnant fish on your hands. Did you want more guppies? If so, you will need to do one of two things. You can either buy some plants (real or fake) for the babies to hide in, most will perish by way of being eaten but it will provide an area for a few to hide. Or you will need to setup another tank (or 5 gallon bucket if you are short on funds) and net the babies and put them into a different tank.

The mother will eat most if not all of the babies, its perfectly normal and its nothing to worry about.

Good luck!

I had a pretty guppy female just like your and she had babies too! She if definately pregnate. The black spots in her stomach are the little babies. I'm not sure how to tell because I've never seen my guppy give birth but I've seen othwe fish go into labor. They're gill start going crazy and sometimes they stop swimming and float a little, I think this is a contraction. When guppies have babies the young are live and just look like tiny fish. The mother and other fish may eat them however...

She will hang out at the surface, generally for some reason near the filter, which is dangerous cause the fry get sucked in when they drop! She poops them out and they fall through the water until they flip open! They are rolled up like little eggs when first plopped out! Then they unroll and try their first swimming. Also she will go after them the minute she See's them and gobble them up! like a spaghetti noodle! Shocking! So--get a baby saver from the pet store-its a little container with a slotted false bottom that babies can drop through into water Mom can't! Good luck!

Yes she is pregnant, and she could be in labour. When the babies are born they will pop out and unfold and swim to the rocks at the bottom. All you will be able to see of the babies are their eyes for the most part. Keep the fish really well fed because she may eat her babies if she's hungry. It is really cool to watch. lol They babies are sooooo little. Enjoy. :D

Yes she is pregnant and high quality female guppies do have long colorful tails. Believe it or not virgin guppies frequently give birth.

Fish dont "grow" bellies like mammals do. Their organs shift to take up the place, but she could be pregnant.
