I just got a baby betta from walmart (I know walmart is bad). I was just wondering how long it takes them to reach their full size? He is not even an inch long yet.

This fish is most likely male. Not only was the cup labled male but he also flares at mirrors. He is just a young male so his fins haven't come in yet.

All the other bettas at the store were normal sized. He is just young I guess.

Please stop telling me he is full grown because he isn't he is only an inch long. My other betta is normal sized and this one is tiny compared to him. They must have accidently sold a baby at walmart.

Ok guys you really haven't helped but google did. Going by the size of him or her (you cant tell at the age that he or she is) my betta is 7 or 8 weeks old. I will be able to tell in a couple more weeks if it's male or female. I'm thinking though that it's male by the way he acts.

she actually looks like a CAMBODIAN female(depending on her they are ready to breed between4-6mnths old,it is however to wait till6,she looks as if she is.(or you have a cambodian juvanile male)you will have to just wait&watch a while.BUT you'll always see her obvious sighns of being egg laden(if)when ready(white pearl@anal fin)Cambodians are nice female&leave way to many colours&strains being created due to lack of 'melano'(black)coloured cells/pigmentation(in scales/genetics)You could try to creat CAMBODIAN BUTTERFLY(selective breeding)(i am)(not easy though!)
Anyway the thing with the cambodians is that they don't seem to have viable eggs, thus spawns are lost as they succumb to various factors(unfertile, velvet on eggs ect)All the more reson to try,i say...With great food regular&excellant water condition, you'll have her with you for a couple of yrs(3yrs max/general life span)So dont let others discourage you/enjoy your fish(what u gonna name it?)If you ever do want more info&to breed contact me,we'll talk.
GOOD LUCK
PS:condition her on LIVE BLACK worms for2-3wks,first(this helps produce abundance of eggs&easier for him to hold/squeeze her)@6-8wks they're only about an1/2 inch or so(depending on various factors)

First of all you have a beatiful female betta, if you ever mate her let me know i will take one of the babies that look like her. Usually, bettas are sold to petshops once they are three months old. I suggest that if you want to see her grow big and fast look for the betta food with the most protein in it. For bettas you do not need filter, and you do not need a filter unless you want to mate her. It might take from a week to three month to grow to her full length, assuming is three months old.

I have seen petshops placing female bettas in male bettas cup all the time, they most likely do this because they dont have more cups for females. Also many females flare at mirrors.

Corydora catfish are stable, and Platies make stunning tank-friends for Bettas. Platies are high quality with or with out different Platies, yet Corys want to be in communities of three or extra. you're able to do Neon Tetras, yet they might desire to be in colleges of a minimum of 5 or 6. some human beings have hardship conserving them alive for some reason, too. ward off wide-unfold fin-nippers and aggressive fish, and any fish that have long, flowing tails or fins, like fancy guppies. A Betta can mistake those for yet another Betta and attack them. bear in techniques, purely a million inch of fish consistent with gallon of water. stable good fortune!

Ok, um, just by looking at it I'm like 99% sure its not a male. I'm pretty sure its a female just by looking at its torso. The torso doesnt get much bigger than that so it looks as if its done growing. The males have the long, wavy, colorful fins and females look like that. Walmart sells both so I'm pretty sure thats what you picked up. Good news though, you dont have to worry about keeping them seperate. Females dont fight each other, or males. Males however, do fight each other. Also, its not a baby. Walmart does not sell baby bettas. This is a full grown fishy.

Normally they don't sell Bettas until they are 6 months old or more. 1 inch is rather small. Their growth speed depends on their nutrition, their water conditions and the water temperature.

Hopefully you have a tank of at least 2.5 gallons with a filter and heater.

And while I'm certainly no expert, your Betta looks like a female to me.
Edit: Female bettas will also flare their fins.

I have two Betta fish now. They grew pretty fast. I have had one since July and it was about an inch then and it is about 1.5 to 2 inches now. the other one was bigger. They are both males. The males are bigger then the females. here is a site to check out more information. Hope this helps.

I checked your picture out and it definetly looks like a female...sorry.

I got mine at WalMart too. He was a dinky little pasty white looking thing. In less than a year, he's become a very handsome Betta! First, he got speckled looking and his fins feathered out longer. Now, he's a gorgeous full turquoise with black tips on his fins. He'll also take food off the tip of my finger.

Males are not the only ones that are aggressive. I have 2 full grown females and I can't keep them together because they fight. They also attack their own reflections btw.

Yeah, it's a female and bettas are about 6 months old when they are sold to the store.
