I mean if no other fish were in it.

With no other fish, pile 'em in there! They do appreciate large numbers, so I'd start at about 9-11 Kuhlis with plenty of decorations (plants, caves, wood). Obviously, as you add more fish, the number of Kuhlis would have to decrease... Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Soop Nazi

EDIT: They aren't "shoaling" fish, but they are extremely social. Keeping too few of them will result in fish that constantly hide (which are no fun to own). Keeping large numbers of them will make them more active.

EDIT 2: Please ignore anything Donnie says... As you can see by this answer, he has never kept these guys (which don't grow larger than 4 inches), nor talked with anybody who has. Really, when you are saying that Kuhli Loaches need a 50 gallon tank, that's when you might want to consider stepping away from your computer for a while.

I'd say about 5-8, although they are generally not shoaling fish.

EDIT: My bad! Forgot to mention that although they're not strictly shoalers they do like company :)

I would say about 10...but then, they would run out of room to wriggle around.

unfortunately, you couldn't keep any in a 29g tank. they require a minimum tank size of 50g.
