hi i have a 25 gallon tank, and last night when i turned off the lights, the the temperature dropped. (the heater did not do a very good job) i'd like to know if its okay for my fish so i can make sure they are not stressed. i have a redtail catfish, and three angelfishes.

its not the best idea because this will set them into a half hibernation sort of. they will eat less in the cold and not move as much. i would suggest that you buy a new filter or add some warmer clean water to the tank to get them back to normal

Its tipical for a tank to drop a few degrees at night. So long as it is no more then 2-3 degrees the fish will be fine. Idealy it is best to maintain a constant temp however. What often happens is that in the winter the room temp will drop. During the day time the light is helping to the heater to keep the water warm. But at night the heater has to work harder. So by getting another heater the same size and adding it to the tank you can maintain more of a constant temp.

bein tropical fihs they need a tank at a temp at least 70 degrees any lower im guessing could disrupt digestion or they would be really slow and cold all day. i suugest u get a different heater. i bough a tp fin for a 10 gallon and it worked really well it cost me 15 bucks but if it means keeping my fish healthy and happy im good with it

You didn't say what temp it dropped to. Angelfish don't like surprises (they're a bit sensitive). You should get a new heater if it can't keep up.

you know ppl tell you not to let them get cold so forth and forth.Let me tell you i have had no heater in my fish tanks for the last 25 years.I have dealt with from goldfish to tropical. My tank sits at about 68 degree's. I have never owned one. i have had 65, 85 55, and a 85 gal pond in my home. and all the above named fish. i havent killed them but when they get bigger i trade them in for smaller fish. l like to watch them grow.
