This isn't one of my tanks, but it is certainly an interesting assortment of fish. What are your thoughts? Are you as amused as I was? In this internet access age, how can people make such egregious mistakes?

I found this video quite amusing, but at the same time its a classic example of an unorthodox fish dealer taking advantage of a new fishkeeper.

The first problem I noticed which I'm sure everyone else did, is that there are three juvenile oscars. Not only that, but they are marbled wild colour forms, which means as they mature, they will be more aggressive than red or albino forms. Not just to the other short listed prey fish, but to each other.

Secondly and I only noticed this the second time I watched it, but there is a very small Silver Anawana which swims out of the cave and back for literally a second. This fish will reach at least 2-3 feet in length and is a carnivore so even the smaller oscars, which grow slower than the former, are at risk.

Two male fighting fish. Ok the red one with the split fins is the subordinate which means the blue, with the longer fins has already made his point at some time, but hasn't actually killed the red one yet. In some cases the presence of larger more aggressive predator fish can stem the aggressive behaviour of the siamese fighter to an extent that they are too scared to show violence in case they draw attention from the predators. If you watch at the beginning, the red male is persued momentarily by an oscar and swims to shoal up with the blue betta which nips at it. For the short time in which the two bettas have to live, the blue male will bully but not kill the red male making his life a living hell.

The shoal of Skunk Botia loaches are on borrowed time as well, as are the platies, but unlike the platies, the loaches have extremely sharp pectoral spines which are invisble to the naked eye, but when an oscar finally grabs hold, and tries to swallow it whole, the spines will become erect and choke the oscar, killing both fish together. I noticed about three or four loaches and three oscars so the odds are stacked against any living a long time.

Tank looks great. I agree on cycling the tank. That take 2 to 3 weeks. Since it wasn't that long, you will want to keep track of the water readings, and do water changes. When having a Betta in your tank, the less amount of bubbles the better. They are used to being in ponds that have no water fluctuations. Remember, ADF need to go to the surface for air, and should not be placed in very deep water. Maybe put some kind of rock for the frog so he won't have that far to go to the top. Also, the Betta likes and needs to be in water no lower than 82 degrees. As the water gets colder the less he will do. They like heat. That's about it, like I said tank looks good. Have fun with the tank.

Well. I'm just bemused as to how anyone physically did that! Or how anyone let someone buy those fish! Most people, when purchasing fish, will say what they have, so what kind of employee lets someone buy two bettas for the same tank? It says it on the label!

Oh and the oscar thing...people are just completely stupid. They wouldn't NOT research a horse or a dog or a cat, but people think they can do anything to fish.

Just stupid.

wow there are so many things wrong first of all i wonder if they know how big those oscar fish will get. and they are almost all incompatable fish especially having two bettas what kind of itdiots. and that tank wont be big enough. and when the oscar fish get big their just going to eat everything in there anyway atleast mine did. i thought they could get along with a pleco and so i got a fairly big one that i didnt think they could eat but they still found a way. i hope they didnt spend alot of money on all those otehr fish.

Oscars and bettas and loaches and livebearers? This guy needs to learn something about stocking, compatibility, and adult size. I'm surprised the fish aren't fighting in the video. The livebearers will become the betta's and oscar's lunch, and the oscar will fight with the betta repeatedly. I hope this fish owner was planning to upgrade the tanks later on:(

Anything wrong with it?! I don't see anything right with it! Oscars+Bettas+Yo-yo Loaches+Mollies+Panda Cory= invitation for disaster... It is kinda funny how proud they seemed of their tank... I guess ignorance is bliss...

That looks like something someone in between Opalocka and Hialeah would do. I guess they were trying to be outlaws.
