I noticed a while ago that one of my mollies was pregnant, but assumed that the babies would probably all get eaten. However I now have about 8 fry that are a little big now to get eaten. I only have a 10 gallon tank and it already has 4 full sized mollies in it, what can I do? Can they stay in the 10 gallon tank for a while longer? I can't afford a whole new tropical set-up! Also will the fry be OK while I'm on holiday? I was going to put one of those holiday bricks in the tank will that be OK for them?

Thanks!

In a tank I used to have a bunch of tiny living organisms popped up out of nowhere. One of them looked like strands of dust, the other looked like dots, and the last looked like powder. Apparently they cleaned the tank. What are they?

I have a 20 gallon saltwater tank - Set upfor about 5 months now. Cycled perfectly with Damsels and live rock. I replaced the damsels with a pair of tomato clowns. I use 2 Whisper 30 power filters and I have the CPR60 Protein skimmer. The water conditions seem relatively fine with a slight increase in nitrates and ammonia (thinking I may be still cycling). I have 10 lb's live rock and in addition to the clowns, I have a black sea urchin and a recently added sea anemone.

My Question is: The sea anemone is fed brine, krill mix and started out looking great for 6 days now. Today it looks retracted and no longer translucent brownish but rather a slightly shriveled greenish.

My lighting is only 2 15W flourescent. I suspect this is the issue but I would rather not go with an expensive and HOT metal halide (space and toddler concerns). WOULD A SIMPLE POWER COMPACT FLOURESCENT UPGRADE BE ENOUGH? Can you recomend the best option The tank is only 20" deep (24" long)? THANKS

I just bought a 55 gallon tank and would like to swith from freshwater to saltwater. I have the regular filter, lights, bubble curtain, and heater, but I am wanting to know if those are the right things that I would need, and what all else I am needing to get. If at all possible, can someone give me a rough estimate of about how much all those things would cost?

I just bought a 55 gallon aquaurium fish tank that came with all the bells and whistles, including lighted hoods. I thought that I remembered reading somewhere that it was good to turn the lights in the tank at night so that it can simulate light. Does it really matter if I do this, or is it a good idea?

I person at the local fish store said that a 20 watt bulb in a 29 gallon tank would be enough light to keep most soft corals and many anenomes. is this true? he also said that any higher of wattage and the algae would get out of control. (i have a slight algae problem now but just added 20 snails)
~THANKS~

I have a ton of questions about my new aquarium. If you own one, or can help me, please leave a comment. I really appreciate it.

I have a 2-gallon aquarium that has a betta and a snail in it. Just a day after setting it up it began to get cloudy and I found that it is just the bacteria cycle. Then the cloudiness cleared and I was left with clean looking water. But it smelled horrible. I have owned betta for years and they have never made the water cloudy and they have never made the water stink. I just cleaned the aquarium to start from scratch and I only have the betta in it this time. I thought the snail might be the problem, plus it crapped all over the place and it looked bad too. I read that the smell was the ammonia and that there were things to get rid of it but here are my questions.

Why did the aquarium go into the bacteria cycle?
My betta, before, never made the water cloudy. Why would it now? Is it the snail?
How do I get the trace of the smell out of the aquarium?

What else do I need beside frog food, a lid, plants, rocks, and water? What things and where can I guess them, I need this info within 2 days!

Silly me - I put my fish in a new aquarium without letting it cycle....sigh....the filter in the aquarium is carbon and floss....if I changed the cartridge to one that is carbon, floss and zeolite, would it help? Would it harm the Fish?

Should I just leave him in there for the time being?

Its a 2 1/2 gallon aquarium...and I have been doing 25% water changes daily. I put him in there 3 days ago. How long do you think it might take for the aquarium to stabilize?

thanks all

I had a tank of Guppies and they just had 12 babies so I got a 10 Gal aquarium, and bought 2 algae eaters with it. I set up the tank and let the filter run for 24hrs, before adding the fish. All the guppies are still alive but 1 of the suckers died within 4 days and now the other one is swimming around towards the top, it looks like it keeps trying to jump out of the water. Then it will stop swimming and float around for hours, upside down or however. Any ideas on what is wrong?
