If you use one of the water treatments that advertises "it helps the slime coat" then that's what you are seeing,and it's difficult to deal with, short of just scraping it loose and siphoning it out. I use one of these treatments and about every three months or so clean out the holding barrels and pumps and tubing. Since I pretreat the water before adding it to the tank, I don't have a problem in the tanks themselves.

Extra food....? Thats what is sounds like.Do a couple good water changes and add aquarium salt, should take care of it.
