Recently i purchased 3 black ghost knifefish from the local fish shop. They didn't want to eat and they just laid at the bottom of the tank or they were just hiding behind the filter. After 2 days later all 3 died. Just asking, do the fishes come to the surface and eat ? I tried everything. Bloodworms, pellets and flakes but they didn't eat. I even tried to place the worm in front of their mouth. What could have resulted in their death? I added anti-chlorine, could that have led to their death ? I had floating plant, tubes and gravel in the tank.

My friend just gave me her beta fish because she didn't want it anymore. She had just gotten it a few months ago, so I don't think it is that old. Well, my Beta Fish, and all my other fish prior to this seems to die fast. The most was a month. This one lasted about a week. Anyways, I've read about the SBD and using water bottle (sadly after it died). And yes, I did fed it twice a day..so maybe it was that, but why does it have these fussy/cloudy stuff around it??? It cling onto the the top of the fake plants in there. Now I know that it's suffocating but most of my fish end up having that fussy thing. I wonder..is it because of the water? is it because of my room? is it too stuffy? I'm guessing these fussy stuff are caused by bacteria. I want to know, what exactly are they, how is it cause, and how can i prevent it. I did use this chemical that suppose to calm the fish, but so far, I haven't use any bacteria remover chemical. so yeah, what can it be. It was so pretty, red w/ long fins.

Ok i want to know the name of this fish, that you can buy in a uk pet store, just I can't remember it name.

The fish that was in the tank was about 4-6 inches long but can grow to about a foot. The shape of the fish was long and slim. The colouring was black at the top and silver below and if I remember correctly where the black and silver merged was like a pencil line of blue.

I can't remember if it was a tropical or fresh water fish. All I can remember was that it was below £3 a fish (that might narrow down the search). Also I remember either it had the the word shark in its name or was slightly related to the shark.

Any help would be great, as I'm thinking of getting a pair and would like to get the set up ready before I purchase the fish. I know what your thinking why don't I just go back to the pet store but the nearest store is over 30miles away so I want to do research beforehand.

I am thinking of taking home one or two weak electric fish (ie, black ghost or baby whale) after my neurophysiology class finishes experimenting with them. Can they be put in a regular fish tank with normal pet fish (ie, guppies)?

I want to get a Betta and I found this cool 5 Gallon Hexagon one and I want it. It has an Eclipse filter with "Three stage filtration." Since I don't know what that is, I guess it's good. The only concern I have is, Will it tear my Betta's fins?

I also read that I can get some grass and put it into a bowl and microscopic things start to come alive. Then it said that you can feed the micro. things to the fry. I think I'm going to give them blood worms that I'll cut up. What do you think? Blood worms or bacteria?

hi,

I have a 55 gallon fish tank with a five year old gold fish. I was getting bored with just one gold fish and didnt want to get another one because I didnt want the other goldfish to have his/her space taken up. I went to a local pet store and the woman reccomended Danios (not sure about spelling). She said I needed at lease three of em because they are schooling fish. She said they would do fine with the goldfish etc.

WELL... it appears that they have had some fun nibbling on my poor fishies fins. I took the dainos out. My goldfish however has red edging on his fins and chest.

Is this blood? Do fish have blood? What should I do? He is breathing just a bit harder than normal and is staying more towards the bottom.

I feel terrible What should I do????????????????

thanks for any advice!

I want to try and get some bacteria built up in some stones that I want to put into an established tank. Do I need to put a couple fish in or should I just put the rocks in and let it run for a while?

I want to remove the red and black gravel that I have in my established aquarium and put in stones that i have gotten. I have boiled the stones and am going to put them in another aquarium until I can get that one to cycle. Once it cycles, can i take all the old gravel out and replace it with the stones? Will this mess everything up or should I just add some of the stones a little at a time until i have replaced all the gravel?
What would be the best way to do this?

So for my new Batta in my spacoius hygro planted tank! Should I go for salt or no salt? The tank is filtered and heated. I plan on getting a crown tailed betta from my local fish store.
Should I go the salt route? I've tried it on my platys and guppies and seen not that much diffrence but I have also heard that it helps prevent disease.
Are my plants okay with it?
What is salt shocking and is it too risky?
If I do add salt what is the best brand?
How do you put salt in? (all at once or gradually?)
Thanks a bazillion!

I got a betta fish the other day. It is female [atleast what the PetSmart container said] And it is so small. I mean, small. it is one inch long [head to tail] And it is almost see through [its white with red tail] Is this a baby or just a small betta?

I have had about 7 bettas in the past but never seen one this small.

For christimas I'm getting a Beta female, (hopefully purple) and I'd like to know if just a plain glass fish bowl would work? my friends tell me that you have to clean it a lot more if it's not filtered. Is this true?

This is probably a silly question, but just recently my tropical fish have had long trails of waste attached as they swim about. They don't normally have this problem. Other than that, they seem healthy and are behaving normally. I have heard somewhere that this is caused by constipation. I haven't changed they're food at all, except that I have been adding a few sinking pellets for my algae eaters. Does anyone know if this is a potential problem arising and what I can do about it? Thanks.
