well, first of all you're suppose to do partial water changes of 25% weekly with a gravel siphon
never have the tank near a window where direct sunlight can get to it
Leave your light's only on for 10-12 hours during the day and turn it of for 12-14 hours at night
What you can do right now to get rid of it is, keeping your tank it total darkness for at least 4-7 days, that means no light's on at all and cover your tank with a blanket, after that your algae should have died off
Also feed your fish only twice a day as much as they will eat in under 3-5 min at each feeding
What i also do is fasting them for 1 whole day outa the week to prevent constipation with my fish
Hope that helps
Good luck

That's a good sign! It must be fully cycled already.
Depending on the size of the tank, and what you have in it, an algae eater of some sort might be a good addition.
Live plants also use the same nutrients the algae consume, so if you add some of those, the algae problem should be reduced.
Otherwise, there are chemical anti-algae treatments on the market, but I've never used any.
If your tank is by a window, or has unusually good lighting (plant growth bulbs, lights on all the time, etc.) algae problems will be worse than in a darker tank.

That isn't weird. You are supposed to do a routine water change of 15%-25% of water every 2 weeks. That includes using a gravel vaccum to get rid of the excess food/waste. You also need to get a magnetic scrubber to clean the sides of the tanks. You obviously don't need a fish tank if you can't even clean it every 2 weeks. Your fish are in toxic water because the old food and feces.

Do you have it by a window?? Do you ru n your light more than 8 hours a day? If its that bad get an UV strearalizer, that will cut it down, but to clean it I would go out and purchase a Magna float they are soooo worth the price, and easy to use and clean go get one!!

Get some sucker fish (pacasamus). That will help. I have never had a problem with aquariums having algae. What other fish are in it? Some fish are very dirty and that makes your tank nasty.
