I have had it up and running for 3 days now with 20 pounds of live sand and 24 pounds of live rock.. its been running and it just wont clear it has had a white fog in it. i put two pumps in there to get the water moving more it just wont clear!! help??!!

If you use raw fish, make sure it is less then 24 hours old.

I thought my fish is pregnant,can a female fish have what looks like the gravid spot without actually not be pregnant.Or maybe I am inpatient?I've been watching her close for a few weeks and I believe that she is getting fatter and darker.Does anyone have a good picture that I could compare her to? Thanks.

can i use this kind of filter in my 1 gallon mini-bow?i hate my undergravel filter because the bubbles form at the top of it and water collects on the lid of my tank hood.i am also wondering,will it fit?because its a hanging external and i need to know if it will be able to fit or not.i have a betta in the tank.will the flow be too strong?i cant really upgrade my tank at the moment.thanks so much in advance!

My boyfriend got me a new fish for my tropical tank today. I cant take him back now and i already have guppies and neons in my tank. The pictus doesnt seem interested at all at the moment. Will he definatly eat them eventually? I have another tank i can set up for the neons and guppies but hoping it wont have to come to that.

i have an upside down catfish ...me and my boyfriend have had it for a about 3 months, and everything seemed to be fine but yesterday we found the fish was completlely see through and the upside down catfish are very nicely spotted, so i took out 50% of the water and added some clean. he seemed to be getting his color back by the time i went to bed, i woke up this morning and he was dead:( his color had compeltely come back other than one spot on his side. he alomost looked like he had ich but why would the color show back up ? we have one other catfish it is a bumble bee catfish and he is doing well . if ich goes from fish to fish why is my other fish perfectly fine, and yes i have inspected.?

I'm going to move my tiger barbs from a ten gal. tank to a 20 gal. All I need is the filter, can I use the one I had for the 10 gal. tank?
Will it keep the water clear the same way it did in the 10 gal.?
Or do I need to buy a new filter?

ok i have put my male and female betta fish into a spawning tank. The male continualsy chases after the female betta almost as in trying to nip her. But i heard that was normal, so the female betta fish runs for her life. About 30 min after them chasing eachother then the female got vertical stripes on her as in she is either scared to ready to spawn but she doesnt look full of eggs. So the male goes under the half a styrafoam cup i gave him and he is trying to build a bubble nest but every bubble he makes is really tiny and they all pop 1 second after he makes it. is this normal? What should i do?

I have had my tank set-up since Jan. of this year. Every thing has been going really well till yesterday. I did a regular water change and everything looked great, but when I got up this morning 7 of my fish were dead. Not all my fished died but 7 was like half. I have a 75 gallon tank. I did a test on the water everything was good.

I have a 30 gallon salt water tank and I'm using one of those hang on pumps that runs the water through a filter and dumps it back in. (Yes I know I should be using something better... leave me alone!)

But anyways, how high can I keep my water level? Right now it's about 2.5 in. from the top of the glass. That's low enough so the bubbles from the water return reach the bottom. Is that about as much as I need? Or can I fill it even more?

It's just a single 4 in. fish inside.

I am looking to upgrade my 5 gallon mini bow to maybe just a regular 10 gallon all glass fish tank?? how much would that put me at. i.e gravel, a hood, and othe misc. stuff??? i would purchase it from petco or petsmart. and they dont show all glass tanks (regular rectangular tanks) at either of the wed sites. so if you could help thanks very much in advance!

My oscars have been together for over a year. most of time swimming next to each other.one smaller than the other. At times the larger would intimidate and chase the smaller to its hiding place. last night the smaller one has totally domintated the larger one. major lip locking. and the smaller is now chasing the larger to a hiding place. but they return for more lip locking and mouthes wide open, face to face.I have devided them with a see through contraption.Because I am not sure if they are male and female getting ready to spawn or if one is gonna kill the other. I need some answers fast. this started last night and is still going on. Their lips are quite bruised. Please answer right away, somebody..

Hi, though I do not use it - but I was reading online and is it true you can use Bottled water (Mineral water) from supermarkets for your fish tanks?! Is this true?!! Gosh, If I did a water change today of a 10 gallon tank, and add 10% mineral water - would this be good for my fishy? My tank is established by the way. Hello.
I have 2 small orange tetras in my small fish aquarium (the aquarium that comes as a set, with a filter, light, and air pump).
I also purchased a feeder fish (i don't know what kind of fish it is, i just got it for 10 cents at the local Petco) and put it in the tank.
I noticed today, that the feeder fish keeps on chasing on my orange tetras around.
I don't know if they are playing, or if the feeder fish is chasing them, trying to scare them.
are feeder fish normally aggressive?
what should i do?

When I rescued (it) all his/her fins were gone. I think I see an ovipositor but I'm not sure. The betta is in a ten gallon tank and I am having trouble seeing under it. Is there another way to tell if it's male or female? Maybe a more trained eye can see something I don't. Here are pics of when I first got him all beat up and some just a minute ago. Maybe you'll be able to tell. He's kinda bright to be a female - but I really think I see an ovipositor - so am I just gonna have to wait till the fins grow out and see what happens? Thanks in advance.
