chelsea,

Do you have an outdoor pond or a fish tank inside your house?

If it's a fishtank - and the strings are a brown color, that's their poop like other people are saying.

If you have an outdoor pond and you see long strings of a jelly like material with dark round egglike dots inside the strings, it is probably frog eggs. Toads and Bull Frogs usually lay their eggs in the spring though, but sometimes you'll see a tree frog lay their eggs during the summer. Their egg strings are much thinner and smaller then Toad and Bull Frog egg strings though.

So, if those strings are outside and look like clear jelly like strings with dark dots inside, their most likely frog eggs.

If inside and their small brownish strings you see hanging from the Goldfishes back bottom area - than it's goldfish poop.

Anyway - enjoy your Goldfish - they're cool fish - especially if you have a pond where they grow really, really big - and lay small clear eggs a few times during the spring and summer - and you get lots of baby goldfish.

What color are the strings?

Typically, no, but if you're seeing a long white strand coming from your fish, it may be aborted eggs, especially if there's an angled or zigzag appearance to what you're seeing.

Goldfish poop should be the color of the food they're eating. If the poop is long and stringy, the fish could be constipated, in which case, feeding a few cooked green peas with the skins removed can help.

If you're not feeding white or light colored foods, it's more likely that this is an internal parasite that caused this.
