I have two koi fish in a 29 gallon tank with a 50 gallon filter. I have a pond outside that i can put them in when it gets too big. i know you can tame koi to eat from your hand or even let you stroke them but how do you do it? I can put a pellet in the water with my finger on it, so the surface rpessure keeps it there and one will eat it after a few minutes then quickly swim away. But the other won't. the one that comes to me is around 3.5 inches and the other is 4.5 inches. Can someone help?

P.S. Are there any special treats that they love that might intice them to come?

well i was looking at my fish and i came to the conclusion that they have ick ( red scales, gasping, white spots and flickering) and i also have noticed that my ammonia lvls were not droping even after a water change (30gal tank)

so i added ick away

so my question is does ick have a factor with ammonia

I have a 10 gal that has been established for over a year. I only have 4 tetras (only an inch long) and i have plenty of rocks/ plant for hiding so i want to get 1 or 2 females and 1 male Betta. before y'all start...YES male Betta's CAN live w/ other fish, they're only Territorial with other males...my Q is: is 10 gal enough space for the male and female(s) to stay out of each other's way? and should i get 2 or just 1 female?
thanks

Ok so I'v had my fish tank for about 3 years now and I never used live plants in it, although it looks really cool, I put blue gravel, old castles and sunken ships in it along with fake plants and sea shells. I am pretty good on fish care and have learned a lot about aquarium and fish care in my 3 years, but I haven't had the interest to research or explore the pro's and con's of live plants in aquariums, can anyone explain?

-Thanks.

We just got a Beta and the store said feed him 3 pellets a day, but the bottle says 6-8 twice a day. I'm scared to overfeed him. So far we've worked up to 8. Four in the morning, and 4 in the afternoon. Also, he's ready to breed and making a nest so we're wondering if he can still grow? How big do they get?

I've been reading up on it, and got a book that I've read. I've been feeding her frozen bloodworms, which are thawed. She's seen the male a few times from inside a protected area but she still won't get hr 'i'm ready lines' or get any eggs. The guy at the petstore said it's age and you don't have to feed her anything special but everything in books and that I've read online don't say that. Please help!

I own a freshwaater tank and now want a saltwater tank.
I have no budget and will splurge if need to. The fish i like are butterflyfish, clown fish, angel fish, and tangs. If you have any info on fish that would be good in the tank about the fish i want oranything to do with starting the tank would be great.

Once I saw this really pretty fish at Petsmart; I think it was a type of goldfish and looked like a shubunkin but it was only 2-3 inches long and costs $2.00. I thought shubunkin were a lot larger?? It was white with black and orange spots and long fins. How big are they when they are babies? Also if I dont get this type of fish what breed should i get for a 20 gallon tank and also a 50 gallon pond?

I m getting a ten gallon tank and i will keep it in my room. (courtesy of my mother) it will weigh about 100 gallons. i have to fill my other 5 gallon up outside with a hose, that is what i usually do before i carry it upstairs. should i just first set up the tank where i want it to be and then go outside and just keep filling up a bucket? and taking trips upstairs until it is done? is there a faster way to do it? i m in no rush, i m just wondering. and also, is it okay to keep it without a hood? or a cover? i m not getting any type of fish that jumps. i have seen them without a hood and they seem fine.
