Hi

i have a 1yr yr old high fin which is approximatly 10inch. He has been in a community tank from day one. However i recently just had him and a spiny eel in a tank as we are moving.

Recently the plec has become aggresive towards the eel even though theyve been together for the yr. I introduced a 14" senosedontis and well it was like a flammin world war. In the end i had to take the senosedontis back out.

Now the plec is 100% aggresive towards the eel. Any idea why and if this will calm off?

I have a regular algae eater (the kind you can get a the local pet store that costs no more than $3). One of my gold fish died and before I could take it out of the tank the algae eater started to eat it. Is this normal or do I need to get special food for the algae eater?

This is a repost from earlier. Thought I might get some more infomative answers by posting it again.

How long does it take for drift wood to stop floating?
I bought some drift wood at the lps the other day and I've been soaking it for days now. It's still floating. Did I just buy the wrong kind? I know some types never get water logged and will always float. It didn't say what kind it was but could it be cedar? It kinda smells like cedar- but just faintly? Anyway, how long do you usually have to soak drift wood before it becomes water logged and will sink?

well, i just bought some "cholla wood" for my 55 gallon fresh water tropical community aquarium a few day's ago from
wal-mart. the town that i live in does not have any pet fish shop's. the only thing wal-mart has is like the fish food, the aquariums, the decore ect. everything but the fish i should say. but i did not get this wood from the fish department, i got it from the art's and craft's department. i have to keep rock's on top of it for the wood to stay down, but i guss you have to do that for most wood. but anyway, if anyone out there know's about this wood, and know's if it is safe for the fish please let me know. o, and the fish have'ent been sick or anything but i just need to know if it is safe.

p.s., the alge fish and pelco sometimes stay on it....if that say's anything.

I have a 50 gallon freshwater with tons of room and have already made some mistakes by trusting the pet store. I would like to get a little more color in my tank; but refuse to get anything that will mess with my guppies since they were there first. What do you suggest? List as many details as you can about the fish for ex: if you say mollies do you mean all mollies or a certain type like dalmatian mollies. The factual info the better; if you don't know to many fact but just the name feel free to list them. TY

Recentley the water company has been playing with our sources of city water. The pipes that feed my home are most definetley old because it is not uncommon to recieve shards of some kind of stone in our tap and toilets.--which i don't trust for myself, never mind the fish. We purchase drinking water from Poland springs .
It seems that every week different chemistry issues arise with the tap water, and i am sick and tired of having to add tons of chemicals into the water. I have come to discover that reverse osmosis may be the answer. Is there a better option? I have also come to learn that there are ones meant for aquariums and then ones meant for human use. Is there a difference?

My Betta has a horrible wound on his left side right next to the fin and his gill.

Im thinking its so deep that it went in through to an intestine because when he swims around small clumps of what looks like his food, fall out.

I now have him in a jar floating in the tank.

He had been acting weird for about a month or so, hiding in between drift wood and losing some color but it was just now that I see the wound.

I suspect it was from an Angel Fish during feeding time. They get very territorial.

But anyways, what should I do? Do I euthanize?

Ive had him for a year or so and i've been through quite a lot with him.

Also, looking at him from the top he looks a bit lumpy. His scales are sticking out a bit, so I thought maybe I should add dropsy to his list of problems but then maybe its just a reaction to the wound?

Oh and regardless of anything, he still eats ferociously.

Anyways, I can add a picture if you'd all like. Of the wound and of the top view.

What do I do?

What is a good fish to have in a 5 gallon Eclipse tank in my office that is low maintenance? *** Please don't suggest the typical species like Betta, goldfish, guppies, mollys, etc (yawn)*** I was thinking Arfican Cichlids . Dwarf or green spotted puffers are cool as well but they tend to be hard to maintain. Can anyone suggest a small, colorful fish with interesting character? Bumblebee Goby?

My mom has a 55 gallon aquarium with an 8 inch Pleco and a bunch of other fish (mostly mollies and platys and two catfish) We feed the fish 4x daily and on the last feeding (around 9 or so) we drop in about 5 algae wafers in there, the two catfish eat some of the algae, but the algae eater scares them away from it and eats what he wants and then the cat's get to eat. Well, I have been noticing bits of mom's live plants floating around and I thought it was the Silver Dollars because they are herbivores, but today I noticed it was moms Pleco ripping peices off of the plant and eating it. Why is he doing that when we feed him so much algae wafers?

Hi all. I am looking for a 48 inch long light for my 75 gallon Freshwater aquarium. It is a community tank with Neon Tetras, Zebra Danios, ect. I would like to find the lights I saw several years ago with a purple sort of color to them, but everything I have bought recently (at PetsMart) is either plain white or a deep blue. Anyone have a link to this bulb or know what I am trying to refer to?? Thanks in advance!!

The Jellyfish has red spots on its back and little teeth looking things around the middle. It was found at Holden beach in the Carolinas. If I don't keep the Jellyfish, it will die because I can't put it back in the ocean without it stinging someone or getting washed up on the beach again.
Does anyone have tips on taking care of Jellyfish? If so, please answer!!!
Thanks,
Sillypillow :)

I have a 50 gallon with 3 guppies 2 mollies and some fry. I bought a young silver angelfish yesterday and asked the guy if it would be okay with full grown guppies; and I knew they would eat small fry. He said it would be fine with my fish and it really shouldn't mess with my fry. After bringing home my angel and reading up on him; it seems the guy at the fish store was wrong about everything. What r ur opinions and experiences? I really like the angel and want to get more; but not if it jeopardizes my exisiting fish. TY for the info. I have already asked this questions but would like a few more responses before I return it. I'm pretty ticked off at the store. Thanks.
