I have a 50 gallon with 3 guppies 2 mollies and some fry. I bought a young silver angelfish yesterday and asked the guy if it would be okay with full grown guppies; and I knew they would eat small fry. He said it would be fine with my fish and it really shouldn't mess with my fry. After bringing home my angel and reading up on him; it seems the guy at the fish store was wrong about everything. What r ur opinions and experiences? I really like the angel and want to get more; but not if it jeopardizes my exisiting fish. TY for the info. I have already asked this questions but would like a few more responses before I return it. I'm pretty ticked off at the store. Thanks.

I didn't buy a fish that would eat my other fish; it was a spur of the moment buy. Since I didn't read up on them I asked the store many questions.

Those who don't believe an angel will eat the adult guppies; won't it nip at the fins severely?

angerlfish when larger will take small fishes lieka neon and cardnial.

Thats what they do in nature. But guppies are fine. I have a angelfish with guppies now and never had a problem.

Fry....Everything will eat fry. Its just how it is, so the angelfish like the parents will eat the fry.

But the angelfish will be fine with adult fish. guppies and mollies will be safe.

Remember not to overstock with angelfish, they wll get large and remember that they like open swimming room as thy need to fully develop.

Edit: yes and no, 50 isnt much for a fully grown angelfish, but if it was a larger tank the answer would be no. If in a small tank the possibitiy of the angelfish attacking the guppy increases.

The Angelfish will have your Guppies for a snack, if it can catch them. It will (almost a 100% chance) get chunks out of the Guppies tails, regularly. In a tank that large, the Guppies might be able to avoid it for a while, but they aren't smart enough to avoid it forever. Take the Angelfish back and slap the employee.

By the way, I was kidding about slapping the employee...

The answer is yes, they will get along with guppies, actually out of my own experience
But here is a site that explains every angel species in detail and what their tankmates can be

The only thing you have to do is seperating the young from the guppies, because angels will eat them in not time
And you have also the right size tank for any angel

Hope that helps
Good luck

not in basic terms do angel fish not go nicely with smaller fish, they don't even go nicely with different angelfish. they are very aggressive fish with the help of nature. they are definately attacking the guppies. besides, while a million angelfish gets extra suitable than the different and that they're going to, the bigger one will in all probability kill the smaller one.

the guy at the pet store was probably just telling you that so that you would buy the fish the angel will get larger and it will eat all your guppy's but not the mollies if you like the and gel either get rid of the guppy's or get a tank divider

Once the angelfish get big enought it can eat full grown tetras with ease. I don't think a guppy would be much of a challenge for it when they are bigger. If you want to keep the angles you could go with tiger barbs (in large groups) bala shark, tin foil barb, and other less agressive south american cichilds.
