I've tried giving it that stupid tropical fish food stuff and he rejected it (he ate two flakes and ignored the rest) so I went to the pet store and there are a lot of types. Should I get shrimp pellets (it says it's good for all fish and it's cheaper) or get Nutrafin Betta Food? I'm not sure what to do...I don't want to waste money on food he won't eat.

I had 4 guppies. The tank was really nasty, just dirty, but all the levels were ok. Nitrate, ph, etc. Anyway, last night I decided to clean the entire tank. I placed the fish in a separate container and dumped the tank, cleaned the rocks & the decorations I had, filled it back up with water. I waited 2 hours before putting them back in. By that time the water levels were normal and the temp was perfect. But I wake up to find 2 of the guppies dead. The other 2 are hovering by the heater and don't really swim anywhere. What am I doing wrong?! A guppy is a pretty easy fish to care for. Any tips or ideas on what's happening?! Thank you so much!!

I have a 10 Gallon tank with one female betta. She is a stunning red color. What I have noticed is when I leave the tank light off for a day or so, her color turns dull, almost a muted peach color. When I leave the light on for 12 or more hours she turns a deep blood red color. I have looked everywhere and I cant find an answer as to why. Thoughts?

I have had my carbon filter in my tank for just over 6 weeks now, and it says in the manual that you have to change filters every 6 weeks.

My concern is that if I change the carbon filter, will this cause a problem with the bacteria that have established in my tank??

Do I just buy a new foam and put that in place of the old one, or is there something else I have to do to ensure the water quality stays OK?

I have a 10 gallon tank with 2 small goldfish (oranda and telescope) I know that goldfish need "10 gallons each" but they are seriously bored. I think they need another more lively fish to pep them up. Honestly they hardly use the space they have now. They have always been kind of "lazy". I had a pleco in with them until I found him dead this morning. (Any ideas on that are greatly appreciated too!) No good reason. I've only had him about 3 mo. and he was always weird. He never really seemed to do anything but hide in his cave... ALWAYS!! Anyways I'm gonna go tomorrow and get probably just one fish so I wanna make the most of it. I need some good suggestions of what will mesh well and live a long life with my goldies. Is there anything other than another goldie that will be ok with my fish? I feel like my options are pretty limited. Also would it be a problem to add another fish if I get another pleco? I want my fish to be healthy but I think they are lonely. Any ideas??

I am totally confused with the cycling concept. In order for cycling to work - you need to have a fish in the tank so that ammonia will occur and therefore bacteria colonies will form.

Is this what cycling all about?

If it takes months and months for cycling to be completed - then that poor fish would undergo "stress" due to the rising of ammonia level and pH fluctuation.

There was this thing sliding on the inside of the aquarium on the glass it was oval shaped and had kind of a scissor tail. It was pretty small like no bigger than the flat side of a pencil eraser. Is it bad? And does anyone know what it is?

In my fish tank I have a Female Mickey Mouse Platy and three male guppies (along with other small fish). I did have another Mickey Mouse platy up until about 6 weeks ago who passed away. I do not know if that platy was male or female. Unfortunately months ago when I first bought all my fish the guy at the pet store wasn't too great at telling male from female (and I only found out recently) My female platy has been big in the belly for about 3 weeks now but does not have a gravid spot. Today I came home to find my three male guppies chasing her around and they seem to be nibbling on her front gills.

Could she be pregnant? Why are the guppies attacking?

I realize there are the exact same questions on here, but none of them helped me. I have 3 Bala sharks with a mixed community of Gouramis, Danios, 1 male betta(who is getting along fine with the community) and some placostomus all in a 50 gallon tank. 2 of the bala sharks, which are younger and smaller than the older, larger bala, are getting blood red streaks on their dorsal fin. I am positive they are bala sharks and not the other breed. The filters were dirty the other day, but I have cleaned and replaced the filters and the water is clearing up now, but the red isnt going away. I know this could be Hemorragic septisemia or something, but I have no idea how to treat it. And I can't go to the vet for a subscription medicine. Could anyone suggest something? Are the bala's going to be ok? They are acting just fine, and eating right. The danios are also getting a slight red tint on their bottom fins as well (They are Giant danios if that helps) Please, help me

I own a 55 gallon and a 10 gallon aquarium. In my 10 gallon aquarium i have a 5 inch pleco. Is this pleco to large for this 10 gallon aquarium? I am aware they can get to 1 1/2 feet in a large aquarium. My pleco has stopped growing and he is stable in size, so i think he should be fine in the 10 gallon. Also, I would like to add more fish to my 10 gallon aquarium. I think I want to add live bearing fish, but i am not sure which type to add. I have been told by friends that guppys reproduce like crazy, so i dont think i want to add guppys. I am leaning towards platys or swordtails, are these good choices for me? I dont want the live bearers to reproduce and quickly crowd my 10 gallon aquarium. How many live bearers can i add? I know i should have more females than males, and i know the basic 1inch of fish to 1 gallon of tank, but i have heard this rule is invalid and i dont think it would apply to my aquarium. WHEW...long question. Thank u for any answers!!!!!!!
