I've heard both ways.

they are classed tropical in my opinion, but they can go both ways.

See the problem i have with classing a fish under coldwater is, people think that coldwater fish will die if placed in warm water.

Goldfish can handle 80*F water. Thats why i dont like to use coldwater species, but WCM are both.

The white cloud mountain minnow is a temperate species. Take a look at a globe and think of fish that live above the tropic of cancer. If you're in the US think of fish in Carolinas, Georgia, Arkansas, etc. It gets warm in the summer and cold in the winter though the water doesn't freeze. This fish comes from mountain streams in China. Mountain streams are cool to cold. It can live in warm water though it will not live as long or as well. It can also live in truely cold water that stays above freezing though this stresses the fish also. The key word to both of these sentences is live. That's a long way from thrive. This fish does best in cool water that doesn't have a heater.

They can be kept in tropical or coldwater, They will probibly live alot longer in a tropical tank.

From all what I have read, they are coldwaterfish
