I've tried giving it that stupid tropical fish food stuff and he rejected it (he ate two flakes and ignored the rest) so I went to the pet store and there are a lot of types. Should I get shrimp pellets (it says it's good for all fish and it's cheaper) or get Nutrafin Betta Food? I'm not sure what to do...I don't want to waste money on food he won't eat.

I've had him for about three days now. I didn't feed him the day I got him because I figured he might've already been fed. I fed him yesterday the tropical fish stuff - which I'm not sure if I should even do - and now I'm trying to figure out what to do about today's feeding.

First of all, it can take any fish a few days to get used to a new food. If the store fed something different than your flakes, he will need time to adjust.
A good quality flake or pellet should be the staple item in his diet. I would feed that once a day, as much as he can eat in 3-5 minutes. Also once a day feed a frozen or live food. Bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, mosquito larvae and other similar meaty foods are the best choices. Keep 3-4 on hand and mix it up. Offer different stuff on different days. It may take him a week to get used to the new foods, but once he does your betta will look and act better than ever before. He will also be much more healthy and able to fight off disease.

At the pet stores get food that is specially made for bettas! If you feed him the flakes then crunch them up really small, I do this for my fish because i dont want them eating the whole flake like that.

I use Aqua Culture Betta Pellet Food. You can get it at Wal-Mart. How long have you had your betta? If it hasn't been very long, then you may just have to wait, it will eat eventually, but my betta that I've had for probably about a year, still won't eat the shrimp kind.

There is food specially produced for bettas. Tropical fish flakes won't do, they are for mollies, guppies, platys, etc.
