Fish - July 2007

I have never owned a tank all on my own, I want it for goldfish! I want like 3-5 goldfish, and i know each one need at least 2 gallond per inch. so im thinking a 40 gallon!!

I want to get a canister filter because i dont like the look of filters that hang on the side. and i hear they are better since goldfish are so dirty the need a good filter and i dont want it to be dirty ever!!

so i have ?s can i put sand in it? and if i want real plants what is the best kind of sand? and can i put plants right in front of the tubes so you wont be ale to see them or will that stop the filter from working??

i think im gonna get an acrylic tank with a black back and later i will get a stand and all that!!

now do i just leave it white?should i color it..LOL...IS it better just leaving it how it is?and how londg do i wait till i can put it in do i boil it?

I just got a goldfish this morning, he's a calico fantail or something like that, and has big black blotches on the top of him and his tail. he's in tap water treated w/ water conditioners. he seemed to be o.k. when i first put him in his tank, but now he's not as active and tilted forward, almost vertical. it looks like he's trying to eat the gravel at the bottom. when he is active, he doesnt come to the top, he just swims around on the bottom.

I found 2 fry in my tank 2nite so i got them out and put them in fry net (think rest got eaten?. I think they guppys as im missing 1 adult guppy so think she died and been eaten also.

we just moved to our new house today I have a 55 gallon salt water tank and when we got to our new house the water was a gray color is it safe to put the fish back in the water the fish are in transport tanks and I dont think they can stay in there much longer

When purchasing a bottle of my regular goldfish food I noticed that ther were quite a few breed specific foods for goldfish. Do these provide any benifits to my goldfish or is it just a scam. (They were more expnsive)

i have a betta fish now.can i put the betta in this if totally sterilize it?its only been used once to house my hermit crabs.it has the same top as the 2.5 gallon fish mini bow and it has a space for a filter in it.can i use it to house my fish now?thanks alot!!!

My tank ran empty for 3 weeks and then added pleco and corys. Waited 2 weeks and add a group of 7 juvenile african ciclids. My exterior filter is rated for twice the size of my aquarium (40 g), I have been checking the water quality (ph, no2, no3, hardness, and temp) everyday and have not had any spikes. Already did one water change also. So far I have lost 1 cory ( after bringing home it looked a little beat up), I cant find the pleco anywhere, and now one of the ciclids is starting to "swim irratic" but is going nowhere and is hiding in the amazon swords (fake). This one looks to be on the way out also and I cant figure out the problem. The cory looked lethargic and died the next day. No sign of ick either. Any ideas?

I always hear ppl,saying add some pvc pipes for the fish to hide in but i wonder.how many?what do i do?do i just buy some and throw them in?do i have to cut them in some shapes?do i glue them?its like theres many questions i think of!!!

I love keeping goldfish in this outdoor pond. But it seems like those bandits love to jump right in and eat my friends. Any ideas on how to keep them out? I hear a 2 ft deep pond will save lives. Will that work?

There are almost no guppy breeders where I live and only the pet store variety. I've bred guppies before and would like to introduce a higher quality guppy to where I live and give them to my friends and family. I also would love to have a pair of fancy beautiful guppies in my home. Does anyone know a site online that sells good guppies and ships them in the U.S.?

besides a decoration the dont do anything. You cant take them out to play. and there slimy and tank cleanings are a big and dirty prosess.

i have a 60 g tank down stairs in my livingroom and it appears as though it maybe leaking.i think its coming from one of the corners or the bottom.Its not a bad leak.its more like little drops.In that tank i Have 2 Oscars(maybe 5-6 in),1 Jack Dempsey(3-5 In),1 Pleco(7-9) And 1 Pacus.My 55 g is Upstairs in my room that tank is fine.In that tank i have 1 Oscar,1 Jack Dempsey,2 little Plecos.Anyway What should I do I really Dont have Money To Spend.

Will white clouds do better in a 10 gal with only white clouds or some white clouds with other fish? And also, do I need anything special to breed them or will they just do it on their own. And will a strong filter suck up baby fish.

ive bred zebra danios for about a year and i had a bichir in with the adult fish, one day the bicher decided to eat the female fish i always use when i breed. i have another female but ive never bred her before, im trying to breed her to two large males but she wont lay any eggs. ive never had this problem before so any advice would help.

I have a tank all ready for some white clouds. I will put one goldfish in there with a few white clouds. First of all, will the filter be too small for the white clouds? They are small fish, very small. And are goldfish compatable with white clouds? I know they're both coldwater. (white clouds can be both people!)
