I have a tank all ready for some white clouds. I will put one goldfish in there with a few white clouds. First of all, will the filter be too small for the white clouds? They are small fish, very small. And are goldfish compatable with white clouds? I know they're both coldwater. (white clouds can be both people!)

What do you mean, "will the filter be too small for the White Clouds?" White Clouds are pretty clean fish, so as long as you can accommodate for the Goldfishes' mess, you should be fine. They should be fine with a strong filter, they are pretty strong swimmers and will generally avoid the intake anyway.

There should be a way to adjust the flow on the top of the uplift tube (for some filters, you turn the entire tube to one side to decrease flow).

You might be able to keep them together when the goldfish is small, but I've seen goldfish eat a fish smaller than itself. Realize that if you get a common goldfish (like the feeders with a single tail), they can grow 10-23 inches long, Even fancy goldfish (ones with a double tail) will get 8+ inches.

White clouds are schooling, so they should be kept in groups of 5 or more, so keep this and your tank size in mind. Also, how many of the fish you'll be able to keep successfully will depend on the size of the tank - please read this link on the nitrigen cycle before you decide to purchase a lot of fish: http://www.fishlore.com/NitrogenCycle.htm

You didn't mention the size of the tank, or the size of the filter. In general, though, goldfish should be kept with goldfish. The goldfish excrete alot of ammonia compared to other fish. If you are dead set on mixing them, wait at least a month, 6 weeks would be better. Your tank needs time to build up bacteria to help keep it stable. These bacteria feed on fish waste, ammonia in particular. Once the tank is stable or 'cycled', feel free to mix and match.

An easy fish to care for, the tank need not be large. Provide a well planted tank with open space to swim. The White Cloud is undemanding and all kinds of food are accepted from flake to live. They are a schooling fish and should be kept in groups, being peaceful they can be housed with other community type fish. Provide good filtration with a gentle current. Water parameters are not overly important as they will adapt to a wide range of conditions. The tank need not be heated as they do not require the higher temperatures of other fish. They will adapt to the conditions of a tropical tank, but may not show their best colors once the temperature exceeds 77f.
