In an aquarium a Gold Gourami will rarely grow to be 6". Typically it is more like 4 1/2" to 5" that they grow to be. But it is possible that they could get as big as 6".

Now for breeding these fish it is pretty easy. The best way is to set up a separate breeding tank. A 10 gal tank is plenty big. Fill it about half way and raise the temperature to about 82 F. Make sure the water surface is fairly still and that there are some floating plants in the tank. Then introduce the male to your tank. The male will eventually build his bubble nest. Once he has done that you can introduce the female to the breeding. eventually the male will spawn with the female and then he will place the fertilized eggs in the nest. Remove the female after they have spawned and leave the male there to care for the eggs. Once the fry have hatched and are free swimming then remove the male. Feed the fry infusoria and then baby brine shrimp or crushed flakes.

Like most fish in this family, the Gold Gouramis are bubble nest builders. Their eggs as well as the fry, are lighter than water and float to the top. Breeding is moderately difficult, and finding a suitable pair is perhaps the biggest challenge. An individual breeding tank of 10 or more gallons should be set up. The water should be shallow, about 5 inches (13cm) being ideal. Tank current should be minimal. Many aquarists find that floating plants, or stem plants grown to the surface, or any other floating debris will help keep the bubble nest in place.
A healthy pair of adults should be introduced into the breeding tank. The male will spend a lot of time building a large bubble nest. The two will spawn and eggs will be deposited in the nest. The female must be removed at this time or she risks being killed by the male. Fry will soon emerge and must be kept on fry food until they can swallow flake foods. This is when the male should be removed or he might eat the fry which emerge from the nest.

Good luck

When they are ready to mate, the male will build a bubble nest at the surface of the water. The female will lay her eggs and the male will move them into the bubble nest. The bubbles will be a whitish milky color. Temperatures of around 80 degrees and a diet high in protein (bloodworms, brineshrimp, and Ghost Shrimp) will induce spawning. There maximum size is 6 inches (many will not reach that, some will be larger, different fish have different genetics). Good luck!

Finally, some backup! Thanks Chris, I needed that help, when people want to hear certain answers and don't get them, they seem to develop selective hearing. If your fish are only around 4 inches, it is possible that your tank is too small, you have poor water quality, or you just bought a fish that wasn't entirely healthy.

they are bubble nesters and the male will build a nest.

just because urs is only 4 inches, doesnt mean they get larger.
