All fish need to be in water that has no chlorine. your options are
1) pour a little more than the amount of water you need and let it sit in the sun for 24 hours. You will know that the water is ready usually by little bubbles collecting on the sides of the bucket, give it a good shake and your golden!
2) can purchase gallons of "dechlorinated, super oxygenated" water at your pet store. In my opinion it is a waste of money.
3) Buy stress coat. Add the specified amount to your water and mix.
4) buy a total water condioner. These will remove the chlorine and other common contaminants from the tap as well as stabilizing your ph. I usually use a product called "south african cichlid 7.0" Just make sure that it is 7.0 not 8.0 (traditional cichlid water).

In almost every case, your tap water is fine for them once treated with a good chlorine / chloramine remover. Guppies are not in the least bit touchy about pH, hardness and the like, but will benefit from about 1 tablespoons of salt per 5 gallons of water.

you can use tap water and treat it. but we buy bottled water (5 gallon) and put it in there and are guppies and doing great. and that water needs less treating to hardly any.
