I've been reading up on it, and got a book that I've read. I've been feeding her frozen bloodworms, which are thawed. She's seen the male a few times from inside a protected area but she still won't get hr 'i'm ready lines' or get any eggs. The guy at the petstore said it's age and you don't have to feed her anything special but everything in books and that I've read online don't say that. Please help!

To spawn bettas you need to first prepare the fish.

You'll need to make sure you feed them extra well, and provide a wide variety of foods. Betta's do well with meaty foods and many will feed them black worms in preparation to breeding them.

Now you'll want to introduce the females to the males. I find that the easiest way to do this is to put a divider in the tank and have the male on one side and the female(s) on the other. This will allow the male to see the females and vice versa, but not allow the male to beat up the females.

Alternatively you can put in several females into the tank with the male which will spread out his aggression.

Once you notice that a female is becoming gravid (filled with eggs) you should remove all of the other females and put the male and female together in the tank.

You should lower the water level in the tank so that there is about 3-4 inches of water in the tank. You'll also want to minimize any water movements as this will effect the ability of the male to build a bubble nest. You can do this by using a simply sponge filter and a small air pump for filtration.

The male will build a bubble nest at the top of the tank. This is where the eggs will be put once they are fertilized.

When the female is ready she will move up towards the bubble nest and they will do the mating dance, at which point she will start dropping eggs. The male will fertilize the eggs and then put them into the nest.

Once the egg laying stops you need to move the female to a different tank and leave the male with the eggs.

There are warning signs she is keen. except she is stable colored, some dark horizontal bands will look on her factors while she is contained in the temper. while she is in a position to spawn, a white dot, it incredibly is the top of her breeding tube the place the eggs are expelled, would be very obtrusive on her abdomen. If she is small, starting to be her up a mutually as longer whether she is the two keen and in a position might make the breeding technique safer for her. there is mostly a danger with breeding bettas. I shrink the backside off a sparkling wine bottle and grind it gentle and flat. Set it contained in the ten gallon breeding tank, approximately 4 inches of water, some stay flowers, 80 stages. in case you do not have a submersible heater, a generally taking place heater set right into a tall olive jar will artwork yet be valuable to maintain the jar packed with water because of the fact it evaporates. Drop the female into the wine bottle. some human beings want to conceal the tank with Saran, yet experiments teach it has no result on the fulfillment of breeding or fry survival fees. as quickly as the white dot exhibits, and the female and male teach a super number of interest in one yet another, enhance the wine bottle and watch. as quickly as the spawning is finished, or if it sounds like issues are unlikely as planned, recapture the female decrease than the wine bottle or eliminate her to different quarters. it incredibly isn't any longer a stable theory to go away the pair on my own unattended, because of the fact that if a dispute starts, the male can injure her without postpone, or on occasion vice versa.

What I usually do is put her in a clear cup and let her float in the male's tank with the male. It usually gets them both excited. He starts building his nest. When his nest looks ready, I release her and watch them. Once I didn't watch them and the male ended up hurting the female. She lived. I am not a betta breeder, but I've done this on several occassions as science experiments and once cause I decided to use the fish as part of a centerpiece for a party. P. S. I never waited for her to the her "I'm ready" lines.

Condition the Pair:
Feed well, preferably with live food (brine shrimp) and keep their water very clean. Allow the two to see each other for a couple of days and then remove the female from the male's sight before placing him in the breeding tank.

I have no idea, but I am enjoying reading the answers. I've always wanted betta's but I have a couple of cats that kind of prevent me from doing the fish thing right now. A toddler doesn't help either!

generally speaking, the people at the LFS havent breed bettas.

the online soruces are correct. Fatty foods are key for egg production.

worms are good. both freezed dried(not much, very little or bowel problems will occur) and frozen blood worms.

Also being in sight of a male will help produce eggs. Condition her for 2 weeks and she will produce alot of eggs.
