Depends on the fish... plan on spending 4x the price of the fish on medications, as WalMart fish are often sick. Go to a locally owned fish store that is clean and has healthy fish in healthy conditions!

fish at walmart cost from around 20 cents to $14, usually with the bigger, fancy fish costing more. I wouldnt reccomend going there, since i have bought a lot of fish from walmart and only about 2 out of every 10 you buy survive for more than a year! But mostly you have to look at how healthy the fish are, and notice if there are dead ones in the tank, any that are swimming sideways, or if they have ick or weird spots because these may be diseases that can also spread to all the other fish. My friend got goldfish from Walmart and Petsmart before, and they are 3 years old and doing fine right now! Probably you should listen to all the people that suggested that you should get fish from locally owned shops.

DUDE... DON'T BUY A FISH A WALMART. Walmart is only good for "feeder fish". I have been to three diferent Walmarts in this town, they all get there fish from the same source and all the fish either die or have a fungal disease of some sort. The fish are cheap but there is a reason. Check first for spots or lifted scales as these are VERY CONTAGIOUS for your other fish. Its really not worth the $1.00 you will save over buying at a Petsmart. Try PetSmart or Petco.(they guarantee their fish if they die within a week and will replace it for a full refund or replace it) If your fish keep dying - as mine did, they will test your water for free if you bring in a water sample and help you correct any problems with your tank.) Much better service and a nicer variety of fish for about the same price.

That depends on what fish you have in the tank now. If you buy a 50 cent fish at Walmart (it is almost certainly carrying a disease). It will then cost you all the fish in your tank. Don't buy fish from Walmart! They have no idea what they are doing and all their fish are unhealthy.

too little!, every time i walk into my local walmart i see fish that are too young to be sold. Because fish are fish often there is a large number of fry with deformities which will not allow them to live very much longer. And walmart sells these fish (an experienced eye can actually see these deformities)! I highly recommend that you go to your local fish place . Small beginner fish range from 1-4 $. When you have a problem with your tank (it will happen---sorry to break the news) walmart is not going to be able to help you. Most local fish places will go out of their way to help your fish survive, because they care about fish not money.

I'm surprised that there are still Walmarts that are selling fish. I thought they shut them all down because of all of the complaints of abuse and sick and contaminated fish. Please don't buy fish at Walmart. (Petco and Petsmart are a little better, but still not recommended.) First, all you are going to get is sick fish that will die and contaminate any other healthy fish you may already have. Second, buying fish from Walmart only promotes their terrible practices of neglect and abuse. Third, you will find a much more beautiful, diverse and healthy selection of fish at a trustworthy, reliable local fish store dedicated solely to fishkeeping. They may cost a couple of dollars more, but they are, by far in every way, worth it.

Don't buy your fish at Wal-Mart. The store sells so much that it only focuses on general service, and so the people selling you fish are NOT going to know what you need or want to know - they'll only want to make you spend money and they don't know anything about fish. You'd be much better off buying them at Petsmart, or even better a store that deals ONLY with aquariums and fish. As for price, no matter where you go, it depends on fish. They'll cost anywhere from 59 cents to thirty or more dollars.

Well they are cheaper but also usually not very healthy thats why several hundred walmarts are getting out of the fish business including the on e in our town. most walmarts all had an open system in other words all the tanks were conected by a common filter. Bad idea...get one sick fish in a shippment and all your fish are sick. most locally owned store cant afford a fancy system like theirs and each tank is a closed system...good idea as this way each tank has its own filter and no common water with other tanks this means no spreading disease to everyone.
