I am a designer and I hate looking at the computer all the time and plus I need constant inspiration. I thought of getting a fish in a small tank on my desk. Maybe 1-2 (in case they get lonely??) Looking for an active, vibrantly colorful type of fish. Any suggestions? Im new at fish. I do have a lil pond of fish at home. Deep in me, Im actually wondering if its cruel keeping fish in a small tank for work... Suggestions/ advise?

I was wondering if anyone has heard of these and how is it done. I was in a pet store the other day the lady told us it didn't hurt the fish. But I don't see how you can hold a fish out of the water and tattoo it adn say it is fine. Is this animal abuse?

I've noticed that lately my tank has a BAD algae growth problem. I have the light on half the day. Its dark brown and grows on everything. It comes right back after I clean the tank. I always wipe it off of all of the ormanents and the tank wall and the gravel, but it comes right back. What should I do? Are them medicine type things you put in the water for algae good? Do they kill live plants or fish?

We have an albino clawed frog and just about the only thing he is eating is the little goldfish. Anything elso he pretty much ignores. He is about the size of , oh, say, a fifty cent piece, and he can handle blood worms also, but they tend to bloat him. If anyone has one of these aquatic frogs with suggestions, please share.

I have a 30 gallon with 1 male betta, 3 glass cats, 2 albino corys, and 1 platy. Other two platys just died, which is a big part of my concern.
My water has recently gotten very, very cloudy! Why, and how can I fix it?!? Also, there might be a little bit of a smell...

I have just recently did a partial water change. Before it, my Ammonia level read .25 ppm. Now, suddenly, after a water change, (less than 5 days between!) I check my ammonia again, and it is 3 ppm!! Why is this???

Need urgent help with fixing my fish tank, before my fish all die!! Is it my partial water changes? Possible chlorine??
Am I experiencing an algal bloom??

Help please! Thank you!

I'm just interested, that's all, could you just put them in a matured tank, or do they need to be in flowing water? I'm not exactly planning on doing so but it would just be interesting to find out the truth.

He's also been a little off of his food lately. He started this four days ago but has eaten a little more each day since.

I've read that this color change just indicates he's getting his adult coloring.

He's a dark blue Betta.

Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know where I can get one? I would prefer a large, inexpensive sheet, but anything will work. Maybe something made for aquarium use?

I have had this betta for a little over a year now. I feed him 1 piece of bloodworm or brine shrimp every day so I know he is not overfed. About a week ago I noticed he was unable to get away from the surface of the water. He still agressively attacks the food when he is fed but if it starts to sink he can't go more then an inch down into the water. Sometimes I find him on his side as well. 2 nights ago he seemed like he was fine again since I saw him near the bottom but the following morning he was on top again and has stayed that way, still with a healthy appetite. I'm guessing he is having trouble with his swim bladder. Any ideas on how I can help him out? Please don't say his days are over just flush him.

i recently bought a bunch of live plants for my 55 gallon tank, it is full of around 100 fancy guppy and platty fry. i noticed some snails at first when i set up the plants. didnt think much about it, we have a puffer fish i figured i could feed them to it. but now the snails are out of control is there any kind of fish that i can get to put in with fry and snails that will only eat snails? or any other remedy that will get rid of snails?

in our fish tank we have 3 tiger barbs, a bottom feeder and a new guy we added monday. we arent sure what he is because the petstore person said he got sent to them accidentaly. the new guy is eating the fins on all the other fish.one of the barbs had been eaten down to nothing, his tail fin is almost all gone, and his top fins and bottom fins are gone too (unsure of what they are called) and it looks like his little arms are almost gone too. my question is, will he be okay? he seems ok now but is he going to die? should we remove the new fish?

I was in Petsmart few days back shopping stuff for my goldies and I stopped by their aquarium area to watch the fishes. I was heartbroken to look at the condition of those fishes and it really made me very sad. The goldies had all turned black due to bacteria infection and fungus, rotten fins and some where almost dead and others where nibbling on the dead ones and most of them where going to die because they were completely diseased. I felt it was very inhuman behaviour on the part of store and of course i understand they are doing the business but as a pet owner I felt deeply sad for those creatures. I wanted to know if other people have also observed similar scene at their local pet store or is it just my local store that treats the fishes that way? Have you ever done anything to bring it to the pet stores notice? What would be the right way of dealing with this situation without offending the owners?

Ok, so I've been having terrible luck with these little guys. I bought some last week and they died because Petco didn't tell me that I had to use water conditioner to remove the chlorine. I went back to the pet store and bought a few more, then put them in the conditioned water. Sure enough, they died, so another trip to Petco. This time they told me I needed filters, heaters, air pumps, etc. So I went all out and bought it all. These frogs lived for 2 days and just died this morning. Why is the happening? I did everything they told me to do... please help.

I just recieved a brand new fish tank. I have a filtration system on it but the water is cloudy now. Why is that? And could that potentially harm my fish?

I have have Merlin for just over two months now, and love him dearly. The only problem is, he ripped his tail on a plastic plant(now removed). It started to heal gradually, but weeks later I had to go on a two week vacation. I left him (and my 2 danios) with a food block(lasted them easily) but when I got back, his fins were slightly red-streaked(not majorly) and has torn and ripped abit more, although not to 1/3 or 1/2 of the way in. They seem to have just a small bit of white at the tips, and the only other fin affected is the top one (the main one is the back-tail fin). I live in England, and don't yet have a hospital/quarantine tank. WHAT SHOULD I DO??? I love him loads, and don't want him to die as he is my first betta. Please help him/me! P.S He still eats, and swims around, we have removed the plstic plant and replaced it with a silk plant, and the danios don't nip him....Thank you for reading, and I hope you can reply soon....
