Fish - April 2007

Well, late last night I realized that my turtles (2 res's) were doing this for the first time and did it for about a few minutes.

Basically they were facing each other under the water with both of their hands out and tapping their hands with each other.....does anyone know what does means? has this happened to your turtles?

I have no idea and would love to know. It seemed very cool.

hey i have a plecostomus fish and he’s lovely.. but his body markings is fading in curtain areas... does anyone know what does this mean?

also i have lots of snails and i have to keep picking them out every day, and i have to clean my filter ( fluval 205) every week because the water starts to run out more slower then usual...when i clean the filter out its filthy.. and bits of gunk every where.....

i have two dollar fish, a cat fish and a plec... i have a large tank but it keeps becoming filthy... of their pooh.. an when the dollar fish start fluttering around the water become disgusting with muck and other bits floating around.... this surly cant be good for there gills????

Any help would be much appreciated...x

One of my female sunburst platies has been hanging out on the bottom of the tank ... still, and her tail doesn't fan out like it used to. I keep thinking she is dead, then I walk over to the tank, and she starts swimming again. Is there a disease that I could be treating? I notice no discoloration/white spots... No other symptoms that I can see.

can you pick him up with your hands i cant get him in the net so i pick him up and put him there and also when tey grow do they loose fins beacuse he looses part of his fins and then they grow longer

I have a load off bloodworms in my pond and I want to get rid of them before they turn into Midges
Was thinking of getting some siamese fighter fish but I dont know if they would survive the winter
Anyone know any cheaper alternates that will live happyly in my pond all year that will inssure the dicimation of the midge population in my garden
Also anyone know the kind of tree that midges hate and were I could purchase one?
(cant just put chemicals into the pond there is tadpoles)

I'm a certified dog trainer and I do maintenance on fish tanks. I've decided to start my own side business of the two. Any ideas on a name? I was thinking Doggon' fish or tail waggin' fish. Any suggestions?

I have a large aquarium but the divider bar on top where the hood would go is broken. Can I still use it? Can I fill it with water or is that bar structually important? It's just a little plastic thing. Someone gave me this so it's empty now.

Does anyone know of good Betta breeders or stockists in the UK? I'm getting back into my Betta ways and am looking for some decent stock - years ago I had a friendly local fish shop who would import for me, but now that's gone I'm not keen to go back to generic pet shop fish.

I'm talking about the ones that live in fish tanks. I had some in my tank, and I've already read about them. I know they are an indication of bad water quality. I've been taking measures to improve the water quality in my tank. I just want to know where exactly they come from, how they just appear in the water.

Ok lets try this again. *5 gallon tank oversized fluval filter. elpephant nose getting a white skin peeling disease. only happening at night. and disappearing during the day. All other fish are fine . I have treated the tank with everything that I can think of. Except costia. He is eating, swimming , acting normal. what else can i try and what is the treatment since i can only treat 1/2 as much as normal with him??? Please help

I have 2 one-inch goldfish in a 1 gallon tank.Here are my questions.Don't need to answer all,just the ones you know.

1)How often should I clean the bowl?
2)What is a filter and why do i need it?
3)How much food should i feed it and how many times a day?
4)How should i clean the bowl?(what soap or how to clean the gravel,etc.)
5)What kinds of products or items does the tank need to keep both the tank and gravel clean and the water fresh?(chemicals,gravel vacum,etc)

My male and female has been together for 1 day and they haven't spawned. My female keeps running away and now just hiding and no one is making any actions. The bubble nest is HUGE under the styrofoam cup and everything is set. I conidtioned them to the best and the female were showing all the signs and eggs. They just arn't spawning. I have another male that I also conditioned and is healthy...should I switch the males? Or wait? suggestions please

I'm not sure but. Two of my goldfish have been laying down together, resting. And one of them has a weird long line type of thing hanging up and it looks like inside of it it has a little round thing that sorta looks like an egg. Basically, its sticking out of the tail of the fish. Help?!

hi, i have a dliema. my visi deluxe broke the other day and i need to get another heater.

i've decided to go for the visi stealth since its plastic and has great reviews.

i went to petsmart today and they only have the 50, 100, and 250 watts avilable.

now, my tank is 40 gallons with about 25 gallons water filled up.
the 100 watt heater is for 30 gallons and 250 is for 55.....

if i get the 100 watt, is that too little, if i get the 250 watt, is that too much?

i wanna get the 200 but they dont have it in stock and i would like to get it quick.

what do you think? thank you.

ps. i also asked if they could match online prices because the store prices are so much more expensive! i think it is ridiculous becuase the store price for 100 watt one is $31.99!!!!!, while on petsmart.com the same 100 watt is 17.99.
they said yes as long as i print it out and bring it. and tahts what im gonna do.

My 40 gallon has been setup for about a week and a half and now that i can clearly see that where i fill up the water in the tank, theres a clearly a cloudy line all around of dirt at the top of the water( dont really know what to call it), but it needs to be cleaned.

i hope you know what im talking about.

i would like to know whats the solution to clean this? if i scrub it with a brush the dirty stuff will just go to to the tank and that will ruin the water...
