My male and female has been together for 1 day and they haven't spawned. My female keeps running away and now just hiding and no one is making any actions. The bubble nest is HUGE under the styrofoam cup and everything is set. I conidtioned them to the best and the female were showing all the signs and eggs. They just arn't spawning. I have another male that I also conditioned and is healthy...should I switch the males? Or wait? suggestions please

I would wait them out for another day and see what happens. If still no luck then try the other male. You could of course separate them and try again in a few days. It appears this meeting of these two fish isn't going to happen so tat leaves you with options. Any one is as good as the next really.

I would wait, but keep watching them closely. After they are done spawning the male can possibly kill the female because he will find her a threat to the eggs. You will have to take her out as soon as they are done with minimal harm to the nest. If they do nothing for 2-3 days, take the female out, let her cool off for a week or so, then try it with the other male. If you don't protect her and give her that time to herself, you may unintentionally kill her. Pairs also sometimes take a couple times to 'get it right'

Betta can be as choosy as us, we may not love to be with any beautiful gals..Haha.

Joke aside, the faster way's to try another pairing but aside from that, you may want to find out more on why are they running away from each other? Maybe the male's too big and aggressive than the female? Or maybe the introduction period was too short-you may want to put them side by side for longer period before you put them in the same tank?

Do provide some hiding place/plants for the female to escape during the initial period and after mating, so that your female will not be killed (by sudden aggresiveness from the male).

Good Luck!

You could wait another day...or try a cunning trick.

Place the extra male (in a jar!!) in with the pair for a little while. Jealousy often helps - in captivity, breeding doesn't seem to have the urgency, but if that little critter wants to populate the world with little bettas, he'd better get spawning!!!

Good luck!
