I'm not sure but. Two of my goldfish have been laying down together, resting. And one of them has a weird long line type of thing hanging up and it looks like inside of it it has a little round thing that sorta looks like an egg. Basically, its sticking out of the tail of the fish. Help?!

Is the "long line type of thing" brownish with a small clear area in it? Sounds to me like a constipated goldfish with an air bubble in the string of "poop" - you'll know for sure if it's this because it will eventually break off. Try not feed in him for a few days or feed him a few cooked peas with the skin taken off. It's okay if they both eat this.

Are your goldfish ones with fat, round bellies (see photo for body type: http://www.tropicpets.com/pics/goldfishl.jpg ) rather than long, thiner bodies (see photo http://www.bristol-aquarists.org.uk/goldfish/common/red_common_goldfish_2003-2.jpg)? If they look more like the first photo, they might just be resting. Their body shape isn't designed for a lot of swimming.

What you can do in the meantime is a partial water change to make sure the water quality is the best it an be. Take out 25% of the water and replace it with new water around the same temperature - make sure you put in whatever you use to take out the chlorine.

If the problem is constipation, and I think it probably is, you might be feeding your fish too much, or not giving them the kinds of food they need. When you feed them, just put a little out for them. If they finish before two minutes are up, you can keep giving them a little more at a time until the two minutes are up. Don't feed them any more than 2 times a day, for 2-3 minutes at a time. If they don't eat all the food in two minutes, use a net and get any extra food out of their water.

Make sure what you're feeding them is something made for goldfish. They need to have a lot of plant material for fiber in their diet. You can add fiber by occassionally giving them peas with the skin off, squash (like zucchini), romaine lettuce, cucumber, spinach, and oranges (which also have vitamin C. See the websites below for more information.

Don't know what the problem is, but goldfish almost never breed in a tank. If they are both on the ground and at least one has something showing on it's body, my best guess is water quality went south. Take a sample to an Aquarium store (not Petsmart or Petco but a real honest to goodness aquarium shop) and have them test for Ammonia, Nitrite and Ph. Goldfish are generally quite filthy, pound for pound, compared to other fish and they will make the tank water bad in no time.

Yeah, sure give me a thumbs down because I don't know what I'm talking about with a stupid little goldfish. I maintain $50,000.00 custom aquarium set ups in multi million dollar homes, but i don't know what's what with goldfish.

The fishs stomach should look swollen compared to normal. Looking straight down on the fish verses its side it best.

Since it swells it tends to thin out the skin to a transluscent skin. You should be able to see lil eggs or small black dots (eyes) inside. When a pregnant fish has babies they typically do it in the night when there is less motion in the house. They tend to pop them all out really quickly. Each egg opens as their tail straightens. Most babies will sink to the bottom to "blend" for safety. Mom may be down there to protect them. Males usually eat the babies so he should be seperated as they do it quickly like a vacumm!

A lil round thing at its tail worries me. Is is light or dark colored? Most fish are light / transparent and gain color later on.

Im wondering if it is possibly a baby that hasnt come out completely?!? Do you see any others in the tank?

goldfish are not human - they do not lie down together!
they also do not normally lie on the bottom of the tank,
they will also never get pregnant in normal tank conditions (they actually need near icy, running water and specific temperatures for a few months to spawn).

sooo.. there is obviously something wrong with them.

sounds like a parasite, bacterial or fungal infection.

you need to treat the tank Immediately. Id start with a parasite treatment, then fungal... you can get the medication from your local petshop.

if you dont treat them, they will both die.

Do you know for sure you have a male and a female? If not the eggs will not hatch. Laying side by side isn't like having a smoke in human eyes.

goldfish rarey breed in captivity, about 1 in 300 chance.
it is probably sick or conspitated. feed it only once a day, 6 times a week or move it to a hospital tank if you have one.

Goldfish don't get pregnant.Goldfish in love don't lay down anywhere. It sounds like sick fish and maybe some sort of parasite.
