I doubt it since most humans don't understand the environment they live in, let alone less evolved species.

Fish function off of instinct and understand nothing. Even when they go to the top for food when you approach it's just behaviour learned, but not understood.

No, they are just throw in and it's sink or swin and thank god most of them swim.
