I'll take a few guesses - since there are no photos yet - how about mirror carp: http://www.leics.gov.uk/mirror_carp.jpg - mostly scaleless.

ADDITION: From the photos, not a mirror carp or butterfly koi. It almost looks like a common carp (http://fwcb.cfans.umn.edu/sorensen/research/carp.jpg), but it doesn't have a long enough dorsal fin. The view only shows the top of the head or a slight angle, so the mouth can't be seen. Does it have barbels (whiskers) in the corner of the mouth like a koi?

If it's lacking obvious barbels, is the mouth forward-pointing, like a grass carp (amur): http://www.mkk.szie.hu/~tejfol/amur.jpg , http://www.landbigfish.com/images/fish/GrassCarp.gif , soro brook carp: http://www.thaifishingguide.com/images/fish/freshwaterfish/carp_soro_brook.jpg , or Siamese carp: http://www.aouo.com/Giant%20Siamese%20Carp%20110%20Kg_1.jpg

Or downward-pointing like a sucker - silver redhorse: http://www.everyb1t.com:8080/cg_1sirh.jpg , http://www.smartanglers.com/cn/uploads/photos/1632.jpg or white sucker: http://www.michigan.gov/images/sucker_36460_7.jpg - These aren't related to carp, but have a carp-like appearance from above.

Hi Steve,
It looks to me like a Common Carp, but your best bet would be to take the photos into a pet store where they can advise you. Pets at Home are good at that, my local store were really good at identifying several species of fish for me when i first started keeping them. they also gave me great advice. Or look on the internet for Carp websites.....? Hope this helps

If it has colors like a Koi and long flowing fins it's a Butterfly Koi,which is a hybrid, Koi x Comet Goldfish, sort of attractive, but not a real fish.
