I'm just interested, that's all, could you just put them in a matured tank, or do they need to be in flowing water? I'm not exactly planning on doing so but it would just be interesting to find out the truth.

Sure you can, if you prepare. As you know they are living in a moving stream which means they need high oxygen to do well. You will need to be sure your tank isn't too warm, has lots of water motion and isn't heavily stocked. Also, I would consider it critical to quarantine the wild fish for AT LEAST 2 weeks before putting them in the tank to prevent the spread of disease. Also plan on having plenty of live food available for them until you can get them eating frozen or prepared foods.

We would do that all the time in my fish tank back in north carolina. They are perfectly fine. Minnows are related to guppies and swrordtails, and they give birth to babies (without eggs) alot, just like guppies. These kind of fish are known as livebearers.

No they don't NEED flowing water, they are just found in flowing creeks alot because more oxygen is present.

So basically, they would be fine in your tank.

But if you do put thm in your tank, I would treat your tank with a little bit of anti-fungal and antibacterial fish medication. Wild fish can sometimes carry a few germs. :-)

Minnows in a river or stream are just wild guppies.
They are very hardy. They would do OK but they multiply fast and aren't pretty at all. They just take up space and food.
Any tropical fish fish from a pet shop will not do well in a cold water tank, they need 'tropical' temperatures.

no do not put any wild fish in your tank. wild fish carry many diseases like ich the only way you can safely put these fish in your tank is to quarantine these fish in another tank for at least 30 days and treat them with medicine to get rid of diseases i dont remember the name of the meds put your local pet store can help but DO NOT put the minnows in your tank unless you want all your fish to die its too risky

Definitely do not put wild fish (unless caught/collected by professionals with correct licensing(usually Saltwater, but sometimes FW)). They carry diseases, and it's not worth it. I have been in the fish business seriously for the past 5-years, and it is not reccomended to put wild fish in your tank :-).

that blend of fish could no longer do nicely. Minnows like chilly water and betta's like it very warmth. The minnows are speedy and could grab food formerly the betta has a threat. **
