My goldfish and black moor spawned and there was lots of eggs about the tank. I moved the two parent to another tank and noticed most of the eggs turned white, and that usually means unfertilised. I left all the eggs in the tank. However its been 1 week now and I have about fifty fry swimming about the tank. I have not touched the water only to add liquifry and put a sock over the filter. I have had no deaths yet but I read on lots of sites that the little guys keep dying. What should I do? Do I need to do anything? Will mine start dying and when? this is my first time with eggs

If male Betta fry are kept in a tank and allowed to grow up without females will they grow up with a tolerance for males or will nature take its course?

Okay, so in preparation to boil my new driftwood, I got out my biggest stockpot and found that unfortunatly, it's too big to go in a HUGE stockpot that i have. Will it be okay to set it in the sink, and pour the boiling water over it a couple of times? I wish you guys could see it, this is a monster piece of driftwood.

How fast should platy fry be growing? I have a couple of platy fry that are about three weeks old and they don't seem to be much bigger than ones that were born two days ago... about when should they be about twice the width they are when they are born? Are my platy fry growing at a normal rate? (I feed them the same food that I feed the adults, only crushed up... its Livebearer food by Nutrafin)

I purchased 4 small tomato clownfish almost 1 1/2 years ago in hopes of breeding them and maybe turning a profit. I've done a ton of research into breeding, so I don't need help there. I'm ready to take my tomatos back because they're becoming aggressive towards other tankmates.

My question is, what to get to replace them. I'm thinking I want to stay with clownfish. Are there any particular ones that breed better in aquarium settings? Also, if I bought them small (1/2inch), how long would it take to bond with their partner and "get it on"?

Thank You

I have a 40 gallon aquarium with 1 pair of Convicts. They already surprised us with about 50 babies. And now that the babies are getting bigger, I was wondering what could be done (short of separating the pair) to NOT have them lay for a while.

I'm talking about a fish that can breed in a community tank without having a breeding tank. Also I would like it to be a pretty not to small and not to big egg bearer. A fish that breed on a spawning mop without a special breeding tank. ( Tank will have swordtails in it)And it is a ten gallon tank.

Ive already lost three with it and my pet shop says its due to stress(although I doubt it) My tank is approx 50litres, I have about ten small fish in it, the water is aged properly and PH levels, although I constantly need to adjust for a high PH, are spot on and I also have a neutraliser block in there! I recently purchased two painted angels and a guppie, and now one angel and the guppie have the white stuff on them also! I have tried a salt bath but im not sure how long to leave them in there or how often! Any help would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to lose any more! Regards Frankman!

We just got a used aquarium from a friend a few weeks ago and we have had it set up for a little over a week now and have not put any fish or live plants in it. We have had the "bacteria bloom" and the water is starting to clear again but still is a bit cloudy. However, there are tiny white growths of something sticking to the glass in certain spots and setting on top of some of the plants. On one plant there is some kind of strange orange-looking growths that reminds me of silica gel. Is this normal? How do I know whether this is bad growth or good bacteria? The filter was previously used for quite awhile in this tank several weeks before we set this up, but we cleaned the aquarium itself out well and put new gravel and plants in it. Could the filter being used cause there to be more growth than normal, since bacteria may already be in it?

My tank is set up in my office and I have never personally seen the algae eater attack my goldfish, he lives in this little cave stays in there most of the time. He's about 3inches, my fantail goldfish are about 1-2 inches. I feed him waffers but I noticed that the larger goldfish was missing some scales (and seems to be more of them now) I've also never seem them. At first I thought he might be sick (dropsy) but he eats well and swims around with the others. I have plastic plants and rocks troughout the tank but I notice that they all hang out at the opposite side of the tank, I just thought they did that because I'm there... My point is, is my algae eater hurting my goldfish, but also will the scales grow back and is there any other type of algae eater compatible with Goldfish?
