i have put him in a 2 cup bowl with half of a 150mg capsule of 'clindamycin' . will this save the little guy?

I'm sorry to say you are most likely right. Dropsy damages internal organs quite quickly and usually by the time the fish is this far along the chances of saving it are very slim indeed.

I don't have any information on using clindamycin on fishes or what it's over all effects would be, but it is a broad spectrum antibiotic that should treat the illness if it is water soluble and well absorbed by the fish. Even then too much damage may have already been done for the fish to survive.

Sorry

Dropsy is about THE hardest thing to successfully treat. Generally by the time the fish is as sick as yours, it won't make it.

Generally treatment needs to start within 3 days of the first signs of symptoms.

Any medication that directly says it treats dropsy will do. If you do it in time.

Don't forget to super aerate the water and take your carbon out of the filter.

Good Luck! I hope it works for you!!!

Good for you for knowing what to do. But honestly, Drospy is HARD to treat successfully!

Dropsy is a killer.
Sometimes you can slow the rate of death, but then the fish suffers longer.
Put him down, clean the tank and try again.

Dropsy is nearly always fatal, even when treated.

I would recomend maracyn-two, its for internal infections, there is also maracyn-plus or tetracycline tablets. I'm sorry your fish is sick.
