Sure, if he was used to having tank mates, I would get him a new friend or friends. Perhaps a shub of the opposite sex! This will keep yours busy!

Goldfish are very sociable fish even if it isn't with one of its own kind.

Goldfish are quite social but usually get by just fine alone in a tank and with just human company in the room. He would be fine alone, but if you have a large tank adding a tank mate or two would probably be nice.

I find that they do get depressed when they lose their tank mates. I would definitely consider getting him some new friends.
