Anyone have any suggestions what I can do? My Black Ghost Knife fish is dying. Before I left for work this morning he was stuck to the water filter so I thought he was dead, now I am back home and was going to pick him out and he is laying on his side at the other end of the tank. He is alive but just laying there...what can I do to help him survive???

I'm going on a vaction and there's really no one I can count on to feed them or clean their tank. If I feed them well up until the day I leave and do a big water change, will they be okay without food for 7 days? I'd rather no one feed them during that time away, because their ammonia will get too high. I've had the aquarium for about a month now, I wonder if it's cycled yet..

Presently I'm changing their water every 4/5 days, otherwise my Goldfish gets veins in his tail, signs of bad water. Such a messy Goldfish he is! :P Perhaps I'm feeding him too much?

But like I said, what I plan to do is feed them alot up until Saturday night or Sunday morning, then that morning do a water change and let them fast until I get back the following sunday. Is that okay? Approximately 7 days.

one of my freshwater tropical fish is doing wierd things. the water is clean and he is getting enough food. he is doing everything else that the other fish are doing except for the fact that he is doing something wierd. he does this thing where everything past the middle section of his body pulls to one side. it kind of looks like a human strech. his body twichtes and he stays this way for a few seconds and then goes back to normal. i wouldn't worry about it if he only did it a few times but he does it a lot, like at least once every 5 minutes....does anything know what is wrong with him and what i can do about it?

I have two aquariums. 4 gal for my betta and 16 gal for my goldfish. My betta tank has been running for 7 weeks now but I had to replace all of the water 4 days ago. His ammonia is at 1, nitrite zero, nitrate zero. My goldfish (two weeks running) is doing better with ammonia and nitrite at zero and nitrates just starting to show at <10. Plan to move in about one month just up one flight of stairs. I can carry the betta, taking out a gallon or two of his water. Have read in previous answers that I can do this leaving the fish in their tanks. What are your thoughts please?

My betta fish, Murphy lives in a three gallon tank with an apple snail and, more recently, a corydora catfish. It doesn't sound like there's room, but the dimensions of the tank are pretty spacious. Anyway, about a week after I introduced the catfish, Murphy started acting really strange. He sits on the bottom of the tank alot (which he never used to do, he's always been very active) and I catch him flaring up at absolutely nothing. Literally, nothing. Nothing is there. He's ignored the catfish completely and the catfish himself is pretty perky so I don't think he's sick. What could it be?

My baby bala shark (1 1/2-2 in.) is sick. It's fins are red and slightly tattered. It has been acting lathargic and swims slightly downward. It was only noticed two days ago. It has no white spots and had been quite healthy before.

The bala shark lives in a 30 gallon aquarium with three other slightly larger bala sharks, 5 small tiger barbs, 2 dojo loaches, 2 plecostamus, 1 albino barb, 2 large snails, and a docile siamese fighting fish. All the other fish seem fine and are showing no symptoms. I have already done two water changes and added some stress relief medication.

I am wondering if my bala shark is just suffering from battle wounds, an ammonia spike, or if its something else and if I need to quarantine the fish right away.
