Depending on the type of air vent you have, you should be able to take any top off with a screwdriver. Use a mirror and flashlight to look around. You might be able to see if he's there (hopefully within reach), but getting him out would be something else.
If he went out the window, you should be able to find him outside (probably not in good contion, I'm afraid).

Do you have any other fish in the tank. My friends fish killed one of the other fish before and she found it stuck in some of the plants by the rocks. If your sucker fish is a baby then that might be the case, but if it is an adult that's different. One of my friends fish hopped out of the tank and down the hall one time. Umm, well you could call your dad and ask him how to do the air vent thingy. Sorry about Billie-Jo.

That is so weird!
The same thing happened to me, I had a Bristle nose in a 5 gal tank on his own and one day I couldn't find him, thinking like allways that he was hiding i wasn't worried but I hadn't seen him in several days and began to worry. After a week I stripped the whole tank even the gravel and the filter and found nothing, not even a skeleton? The tank was in the middle of a bench in the kitchen and he would have had to travel quite some distance to get near a floor. I never found his body, till this day we call him phantom fish!
As for the air vent if its anything like mine it should just lift up?
Try it, good luck and happy fish keeping.

If u have other fish in the tank then it was probably eaten :( but i dont think the holes in a vent are wide enough for it to fit through and how could it flop out the window?

if you have other fish in the tank they may of eaten him, some fish are scavengers and will eat dead fish. We had a tank of goldfish with no lid, one went missing one day and we never found it, maybe someone stole him?
Its always a good idea to put a lid over the tank, fish are very good jumpers. also an animal could come in the window and take it.

Do you have any other fish? If the other fish was chasing billy-jo he might have jumped out of the water to escape. My uncle's blue green chromas jumped out of his tank beacause the other fish were chasing him. If billy-jo is tiny you should check your filter again. Smaller fish tend to get sucked inside filters. Really hope u find him.

Don't you have a top for your tank?? If you have a top for it, your fish is still in your tank...he's probably hiding. Also, I'm pretty sure sucker fish (I'm assuming it's a pleco) aren't the world's greatest jumpers, so I doubt he would have jumped out. Make sure you check the tank thoroughly...plecos blend in very well. Just relax and search your tank better. He's probably in there. :)

Plecos are well know jumpers. So always be sure their tank has a top. They also are good at hiding.

Maybe he was in heat and walk to your neighbors to bang the other sucker fish. Don't worry he'll jump back in the tank when he's tired and dirty.
