one of my freshwater tropical fish is doing wierd things. the water is clean and he is getting enough food. he is doing everything else that the other fish are doing except for the fact that he is doing something wierd. he does this thing where everything past the middle section of his body pulls to one side. it kind of looks like a human strech. his body twichtes and he stays this way for a few seconds and then goes back to normal. i wouldn't worry about it if he only did it a few times but he does it a lot, like at least once every 5 minutes....does anything know what is wrong with him and what i can do about it?

There are several possible answers to what is causing this behavior. One is a genetic problem with his nerves or with his brain. Another is a pinched nerve in his spine. Certain rare types of internal parasites and diseases can cause this behavior. Another is just an odd behavior that he will stop doing eventually. Unfortunately there is no way to know which it might be with no other symptoms to go on. personally, I woudl suggest watching him closely for other signs of problems and if he gets worse euthanize him. Of all the potential causes I can think of, there is nothing you can do to cure or correct any of them. Sorry I couldn't help more.

Your fish simply could also be adjusting to its dwelling (if its a brand new fish). If its NOT a brand new fish, I might suspect a parasite obstacle. Fish will "flash" or "scratch" in opposition to matters whilst they're being angry by means of parasites. Id take a near appear and notice for those who detect something at the fish. Bloody streaks in fins, spots, ulcers, fungus...

I"m willing to bet that the fish that you think is sick is an african cichlid........and I bet he isn't the only one in the tank...eh?? Some of mine do this too.......I think it is either a display of aggression to protect territory..or a mating ritual kinda dance.....I think it is a way of sending out "waves" by twitching...showing other fish how gnarly he is.........I wouldn't worry about it unless they ALL start doing it all the time....or your water gets bad....
