Caribbean is beautiful, however I have a large mix of Toga branch (excellent for unique shape and height and color) , Melanesian, fiji, base rock as well as some I have brought home. They all have their own unique look as well as purpose in an aquarium. Most of my live rock is South Pacific. I like the diversity with this kind of rock and it makes for a much better base for corals. After all, the largest reef known is in the South Pacific!

The key to a good reef tank or aquascape is the initial set up. Not only pleasing for you but functional for the aquarium and safe for the fish in it. Having a game plan ahead of time is the best thing to do. Know what kind of fish you eventually want then build from that.

Remember clowns are not naturally immune to anemone's. Getting a young tomatoe clown that has never been housed with an anemone does not mean it will. Anemones in the wild use the anemones for protection and sometimes food. They must repeadildly get stung by the anemone to build up a tolorant slime coat. Also, you can have clowns in your tank that an anemone will never use.

Clowns and anemone fish typically use only 10 species of anemone. porcelain, carpet, pink hatians, Endemic Phil Just to name a few that can be found easily in the LFS.

Here's a link to a page showing the compatibility of different anemones and anemonefish: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_3/cav3i1/Clown_anemone/Clown_anemone.htm

I like the Atlantic/Carribean aquacultured live rock - it's some of the most colorful I've seen and at an earlier time. Tons of sponges, shrimp, coraline algae, some macroalgaes, tunicates, bivalves, snails, and feather worms are typical. I've also gotten seastars, urchins, chitons, and others on it.

I use harvested rock that has been planted for that purpose.

See the reference for everything you ever wanted to know about clowns and their anemones.
