i just got 6 fish for a 10 gallon tank. everything is new and the water was run through a couple days before i got them by the filter. i even got conditioning salt for the fish. a few of them chase each other around and kind of bite each other and the one that is being chased doesn't seem to like it...also a few of them are also doing this wierd thing like kind of streching....its hard to explain but they hold their tail to the side and they kind of vibrate and they do this for a few seconds every couple minutes. whats wrong with my fish??

I have a terrestrial eyed gold fish.. he looks like a goldfish but his eyes are HUGE and they are on top of his head.. he is hilarious looking... my question is... if I let his tank get a little warmer than usual will he grow faster? I read somewhere where they will grow faster in warm water. He has a 10 gallon tank an is only about 3 inches long now.. they said he can grow up to 6 inches.. Is the warm water thing true or just a myth?

I have heard so many mixed ideas on how often you should feed them. Some people feed them a large pinch once a day, while others say 3 times a day. What is your opinion. I personally feed mine 1 to 2 times a day.

im setting up a 29 gallon tank right now to home 2 fancy goldfish,
i just bought some fake plants to put in it and a heater because that room gets colder in the winter time.
Heater question- its one that you have to adjust, if i get it set to keep my tank at a bout 70 degrees, will it heat the water if it goes below 70 degrees? any tips on these kind of heaters? the water fluctuates between 66degrees and 74degrees, i want it set at close to 70. any suggestions thanks?!
also heater place ment? does it really matter, i have it right next to my filter do spread out the heat. is this a good place?
one more question as far as fishless cycling...i know goldies are hardy and i just want to make it better for them. i have another well established tank up and running for several months, i was going to take the filter cartridge and put it in the new tank to speed it up. but the cartridge is for a 5-15 filter, can i just stick it in the 20-40 any ways? if not what can i do?

thanks

What are essentials of keeping a fun and healthy fish tank?

I have been advised thus far to get larger stones as I have small gravel leftover from previous use and not to utilize the heater and filter that I also have with the tank. I have been advised to only put enough water in the tank to cover the salamanders (I'm getting 2), but I thought that I could put the tank pretty high and watch them swim/water walk. I did see this with a fully grown, so I don't want to drown the babies. Please advise!! I saw a fully grown for sale in my neighborhood a couple weeks ago and regretted not getting it. Now I'm gonna get these babies and I really don't want to kill them, they are awesome creatures. Any advice would be really appreciated, thanks in advance!!

I have 2 snails, I think its their eggs. But from what I know, aren't they suppose to lay the eggs above waterline? The eggs are not above water line...they are ON the water line so like half of the jelly stuff is in the water and the other half is not. I dunno what kind of snails I have, I asked for them at the aquarium (brown tiny ones) and I only had two. I hope the eggs would hatch cause one of the snails climbed out of the aquarium while I was asleep and died this morning.. :(

help my male goldfish wont eat

I've had my first fish tank for about 10 days and I was using the fish food that came with the aquarium kit and the fish seemed to love it, and the water remained clear. After that small sample ran out I bought the same brand and type of fish food and fed it to my fish. The flakes are a bit bigger and the fish don't seem to enjoy it as much, and ever since the new food the water has been cloudy. They usually take a bite and spit it back out. Is the food making it cloudy or could it be the 10 day old filter?

There are three red parrots in the tank, well established as I got these guys as babies and they have passed the 6 year mark. Presently only one of them has the black markings on him.
I am thinking maybe stress?
I have many tanks and can consider separating them, but that may be stressful to them also as they have never been apart. Any suggestions from experienced aquarists?
Thanks

I have had the tank (30g) now for 1 1/2 years. I only have flourescents and need some more power. I was thinking of a power compact 36". However my question is this. If I move up to a 48", can I still use the 36" light and have 6" void on either side? Or if I expand can I buy pot light metal halides to supplement the power compact? I want to be able to expand on a budjet.

Hi! I was thinking about setting up a tank and I was going to get two convict cichlids and I was just wondering how to care for them, are they easy to care for, and what to feed them. I'm still not sure if I will get them but I was just wondering what they act like and things like that! Thanks

I have a 2.5 gal freshwater tank, with 1 African Dwarf from, 1 Molly Guppy and 1 Albino Catfish.

Today there are about 5 larvae floating/swimming around on the top of the water. They have a black top with a silver bottom that moves to propell them around the tank. I've read other entries regarding mosquito larvae and it's usually commented that they look more like white worms on the sides or bottom of the tank.

Do I need to get these out of the tank? What are they?

Thank you!

I was doing a water change today and although I normally am very careful not to get my fish caught in my pitcher, I missed my fantail swimming into it today. I didn't realize it until I had already poured him into the toilet. It was my last pitcher of my water change so I'm pretty sure he was only swimming in his own water but he did fall from pretty high up. I'm also worried about the bacteria and germs in my toilet. He seems okay, but do you think he will get sick. Will he get my other fish sick?

I have a marble angel and I believe a male. The large marble with veil fins (I think it is a male) is agressive to the gold female? Is this a courtship ritual before spawning? Is it safe to leave them together? How long will it take before laying eggs? Please help! Also, the large marble has lip fibroma? I wonder if they will sucessfully spawn with this condition. Please help! Thanks.

I have been posting several things about fish lately, and discovered the Discus Fish. They're indeed a beautiful fish - and in order I do things right without rushing into it I'd like to know more about how to keep a Discus fish, how big they grow if they come in dwarf or just large and how many to a tank or in my case - I'd only like to have two - is it best to have them in pair? Single or groupped?

Many Thanks, all your answers I'm sure will be great.
Sara :)x

My friend was petsitting for me while I've been out of town the last two weeks. I'm coming back on Friday but she just emailed me today saying that she's lost my spare key. My other pet has food bowls left around the house so she's fine but the fish of course doesn't and ate last on Monday and it's now Wednesday. I won't be there for two more days which would make it almost a week that the little fish will not have food. I'm really worried. I told her to keep looking for the key, and she is, but with her there's a good chance it's LOST indefinantly. How long can bettas go without eating? Does anyone know? I'm really thinking about having her husband break in through the window. Help Please!
