I have a terrestrial eyed gold fish.. he looks like a goldfish but his eyes are HUGE and they are on top of his head.. he is hilarious looking... my question is... if I let his tank get a little warmer than usual will he grow faster? I read somewhere where they will grow faster in warm water. He has a 10 gallon tank an is only about 3 inches long now.. they said he can grow up to 6 inches.. Is the warm water thing true or just a myth?

The warmer the water, the faster their metabolism, the more they should be fed, the faster they will grow. But it also means the water will get dirtier which means you will have to do water changes more often. You should already be doing weekly water changes of around 20% anyway.

Unlike what many people think goldfish do not grow to the size of their tank. If kept in something too small they usually become stunted, their outside stops growing but their insides don't and they eventually die from it.

Listen to Nunya above!! All fish, not just goldfish, will grow to a point depending on the size of the tank, but once they are "forced" to stop growing because the tank is too small for them, they eventually die. Your 10 gallon tank is starting to be too small for your fish already. You will have to keep moving up in tank size as he grows, and stop when the fish reaches maximum size for the species... and goldfish gets pretty big! so I'd keep the temp on the lower side (mid to high 70's) so he doesn't eat as much and won't grow as much.

Oh, and put a live plant in there (something goldfish proof). The fish will be much happier.

Your fish will grow bigger if you have a bigger tank. I have a 29 gallon and my fish get pretty big no matter what kind it is. My friend has a 75 gallon and her fish are bigger than mine. If you keep your tank warmer your fish will eventually die they really don't like it past 78 degrees F. Actually goldfish like their water a little cooler than most. I've had fish die on me in the summer when I couldn't control the temp. and my air conditioning was out in the house.

Personally I think it's a myth, my 6 fish grew way huger than anyone ever thought in a small tank, it's down to how you keep them. I notived in warm water they got lethargic, I suppose they're not tropical....

I am not exatly sure but you should keep there tank at reccomended tempurature. Your fish could cook if you get him to hot. And I don't know about you but I love those bubbly eyed goldfish
