I recently got a Light-Glo fish tank from a friend, but the light in the hood isn't working. I think its water damaged so i don't want to just get a new bulb. Do i just need to get new fittings or do i need a whole new hood? Any help much appreciated. Thank you x

i had this prob before the best thing is to bring it into a light shop and if they are helpful they will insert a new bulb there (explain the prob) if the light works then its the bulb if not then you will have to get a new hood . please do this as soon as possible cause its one very important envoirment for the fishes to have this no.1 heat of light no.2 helps the envoriment in the tank etc

You should be able to get the light bulb, the starter( little white roung thing in transformer) and the fittings all seperately, try the starter first they are only cheap, mind you the bulbs are not that expensive, in fact the whole lot wouldnt cost a great deal, car boot sales are an ideal place to pick up all the equipment you need. All the best

there are plenty of waterproof fittings that will allow you to connect whatever size tube you require.
as long as the hood fits and suits the tank i would leave it as it is.
if your tank is over 20" deep, it will be worth getting a reflector for your tube, these are cheap and easy to fit.
cannot remember which type of lamp i was using when i got my one hair algae problem.....i think it was the gro-lux but i would suggest keeping a close eye on the tank and if there is any sign of an alfae 'bloom', reduce the hours the light is left on.
