I just recently had a male Texas cichlid breed with a female convict cichlid in my Cichlid community tank. Has anyone ever heard of this or ever attempted it themselves?

I've had my Goldfish for 2 years. I recently added another large goldfish to the tank and within 3 days, my goldfish was bleeding from the gills. I separated them but now my goldfish is streaked with blood down the lower half of it's body. It has been existing for 4 days now but seems on the brink of death. Sometimes he's on his side, or head down, other times he will swim around a little and not really eating. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you

I am thinking about putting a fish tank in my room, what are good beginner deals/fish that I can look into? Also, is having a fish tank in my room worth the work? I think they are calming and nice to have, but I am not sure if it is worth it. Thanks for the help.

I have a saltwater tank and a freshwater tank and I was asked by a child, "Why do the fish need to live in saltwater?" Well I didn't know the answer and I was curious myself, so if anyone knows please let me know?

I need to know when it is safe for me to put some more expensive fish ino my tank. It is a 40 gal saltwater tank that has 6 damsels in it to help cycle it. I used fake plants, but live sand and some gravel.
Hydrometer read 1.023
PH 7.8
Alkalinity ideal
Nitrate .5 (caution)
Nitrate below 20 (OK)

Also how do you change the pH level if it were too high? Or any of the other readings for that matter. This is my first tank and I really don't want to kill any fish, expecially since they cost so much once you really get some nice ones. We plan on getting a pair of clown fish as soon as the tank is stable. What else would go well with clown fish and damsels? What is the best kind if cleaner fish to put in there to keep the tank clean? I like how the cleaner shrimp looks, but do they clean the tank or just the fish?

My Betta fish has what seems like a swollen spot on him. The spot is right on his belly like up close to his head. It looks like a pregnant belly but its not exactly on his belly. Does anyone know what this could be??

I have a fantail goldfish and a black placosthamus ( I'm sorry about the spelling) Recently, I changed the water in its 10 gallon tank. I treated the water and added the appropriate amount of aquarium salt and made sure that it was good and ready for the tank before I put it in. Now my goldfish has developed what looks like pimples on its scales, but this is only on one side. I would like to know what is wrong with my fish and if this problem could possibly spread to my other fish. I would also like to know how to treat this. Please do not leave any rude remarks because it is a waste of my time as well as yours. Any help with this would be awesome. Thank you.

The marks are crescent shaped and around both eyes, there also appears to be a small patch on top of the head The other tetras and fish do not appear to be affected. The tank is regularly cleaned. Any help would be most appreciated.

When testing all the water in my house my 10 gallon, 120 gallon, upstairs and downstairs sinks all have water with a pH of 7.1. Then when I checked my 29 gallon tank it has a pH of 6.4 and it is filled with the upstairs sink. Can anyone tell me why that is? The only thing I can think of is I have 1 one foot piece of driftwood in there but my 120 has several pieces of similar driftwood (it's a little darker then the 29 gallon's) and the pH hasn't changed there at all.

I do a 20% water change almost weekly and that never seems to have an effect on the pH in any tank so far.

Thanks in advance.

how good are bristle nose plecos at eating algae? I'm thinking about getting one... my snail died recently and I don't want another snail because I'll feel like I'm replacing her. but, I need whatever i eat to actually eat the algae because since my snail died I've been getting more and more algae. pete was very good at controlling algae.

my unlce had one and said it was pretty good at controlling algae, but I've heard that they don't actually do much for algae control, so I was just hoping for some opinions.

for those of you who don't know, i know quite a bit about fish and caring for them, so I don't need instructions or anything like that. just your personal experience with bristle nose plecos. thanks.

Something ( probably a racoon) pulled the Thermometer from my small pond (approx. 50 gallon) last evening and broke the Thermometer. Some, but not all, of the Mercury beads fell into the pond. Will this kill my fish ?

I want to cycle a 20 gallon tank to get it ready for some fish, but right now i have 5 female bettas in it. They get along and are doing great, but i have a Penguin 330 in the tank, and it is too much water flow for the bettas. When the filter is on, they all stay on the side of the tank where there isn't as much flow, but when it's off they swim around and play. I know the purpose of cycling a tank is to get the filter ready, but is it possible to leave the fish in, and occasionally turn on the filter? will it still cycle the tank for the other fish i plan on getting?

when i get new fish for this tank, the Bettas are going back into the 10 gallon that i already have prepared for them.

my snail has taken to climbing my bubbler tube column (the actual bubbler tube the one attached to the stone thingy is in a column that supports the stone), and i'm afraid he's going to either fall into the column, or climb the tube and try to get out!! the only thing i can think of to keep him from falling in is to put some sort of screen over the top of the column, but i don't think there's anything that would be safe to put in a fish tank!! what is a good idea to keep him from escaping or falling in? the only other way i can think of is to nudge him off of it, but i don't think that's too good for my snail or my fish... any suggestions?
