If I HAD to choose, I would choose the baby one. The mother has already lived. But I would definitely want to save both. I don't like to see things die.

The baby if it is a girl! Well I would still save the baby because it just came to the world. The mother has been here a long time.

mother fish. She's established herself in this world, so she probably has a higher rate to survive and reproduce.
Save the baby fish and there's a good chance it gets eaten a bit later.

why are we talking about fish?

Both, if I could.

If I HAD to choose, the mother. Unless she's on death's door herself, she has shown that she's capable of reproducing again (if a livebearer, likely to reproduce for another six months without another male). The baby is too risky - it may have a genetic defect that will prevent its survival to adulthood, plus it's size makes it more vunerable to predation, pollutants, diseases, etc..

Both, it's not like they are both falling off a building and I could only help the one up before the other falls.

Both of them, its not any harder to treat multiple fish...and they most likely have the same disease.
