At about 2 weeks the labyrinth organs start to develop. It's important that the air temperature over the tank be very close to the water temperature. A cover of some kind is a help. Of course you should leave a small opening for air exchange, but avoid drafts or you will begin to lose fish at this stage. To get the fastest growth rate feed BBS that are newly hatched(less than 24 hours from hatching). After 24 hours they have absorbed all of the yolk sac from the egg and are not very nutritious. A second food could be hard boiled egg yolks that are forced through a fine linen handkerchief. You can buy one fairly cheap at a store that sells sewing supplies. After your fry are past the labyrinth stage you can start raising the water level in your tank, this will delay the need for a larger tank for a while. As secondary sex characteristics begin to show you can begin moving the males into their separate quarters. For fry tanks I like sponge filters, air powered with a gentle bubble rate. You could begin cycling one in a well established tank,so it will be cycled when the fry are ready for it. -----Hope this helps, good luck.----PeeTee
