I was given an aquarium by my cousin. She says it is a 20 gallon or bigger. The diameters are 24" long by 16 3/4" tall by 12" from front of the tank to the back of the tank. Can anyone tell me how many gallons my tank is from these measurements? Thanks!! :-)

I MIGHT have a pregnant platy, but I'm not sure. I'm new at this aquarium stuff, and I thought we were careful to get all our platys the same sex, but who knows? And they all have those balloon-looking bellies. Can I tell just by looking if my platy is "in the family way"? If she is, how long will that last, and what should we do when she gives birth?

I have five tiger barbs and two of them are getting really kinda fat. I can't tell if it's because they were starved at the store or if they are pregnant or something else. They all pretty much look similar so I can't tell if they are different sexes. I guess I'll know if any of them start spewing eggs...

Does anyone know anything about blue orandas. I have 2 that I have had almost a year, the one is huge about a good 8+ inches long and fat and the other no more then 3 and tiny. They were the same size when we got them. Could the smaller one be a dewarf (if there is such a thing) or what. And if you know of any good sites please let me know, I havent found a site that tells me a lot about them. All I am going on is what I know for taking care of goldfish and koi.

They are very reluctant to come to the surface of the tank even to get food. Everytime I walk by the tank they all dive for cover. Is this normal, or do my fish have "issues"?

I have a 15 gallon fresh water tank that is 3 years old. It's well seasoned and the fish in it were all born in the tank. I have platys and guppies and a plecostomous (sp?).

I had to move the tank out of its old location about 5 weeks ago. The old location got some sunlight and we struggled a bit w/algae on the side of the tank. In its current location, it gets no sunlight at all. There is no algae on the walls of the tank, but I have green fluff growing all over the rest of the tank (not on the sides). It looks like green cotton balls. I'm sure the baby fish will appreciate it, but I'm wondering if it's algae. The algae-eater doesn't seem interested in it. Is this algae or some other plant? It's strange, because there is no sunlight there.

i heard that the water levels cant be too high because the weight of water may crush the eggs/frys
then how high should the water levels go up to? ( in inches please)

I just got a goldfish and the fishbowl is constantly cloudy ... I have to completely replace the water every 2 days. The fish doesn't move much ... I'm afraid it's dying. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? See photo at http://www.flickr.com/photos/wilsonmike/383265651/

I was thinking of making my tank a cichlid tank, are then any species that would fit in a 10 gallon tank, I was also of thinking of doing some research about plecos to find the smallestsize they grow to be and sticking one in with it. The tank has two hideouts, 3 plants, a 15 gallon filter, a heater (80 F) bubbler, amd gravel. I have had a cichlid before, got it from my nieghbors when they moved, it was in a 10 gal and way too big, brought it to a petstore to find a bigger home. I was thinking I would take out those plants and hideouts and put some clay pots and caves in there instead, would this be ok. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She is super small...about the size of your baby finger tip. All of the pellets and flakes seem too big for her to even fit in her mouth. Thanks for all of your help!!

Just bought 2 Giant Danios and 2 Tiger Barbs. The Tiger barbs keep chasing the Danios and I don't really know what to do. Will the Danio be ok with the Barb in there or is there something I should do?

I am planning to start an aquarium and thinking a betta male fish for a pet but I don't know if it is better for me to get an aquarium kit or start from scratch. And also is a 10 gallon tank good enough or should I go more than that but I don't want a huge tank for a beginner like me. I might add little tropical fishes in the future. SO it is best if the tank might serve me a double purpose. A tank that would be durable enough to last me years.

Let me know the website or the place I can get the tank you recommended.
Thanks!

I was thinking of getting a betta fish for a pet. I live in NYC and it is winter time, I know you would need a heater in the aquarium for this is a tropical fish but what I am concerned about is when I buy them from a pet store and to transport it home. The temperature here 10-25 F, so I am worried that the fish might die in the process. Or is there a site that ships betta all year round. I really wanted to start an aquarium but if betta is not a good option right now I might go with fresh cold water fish. Do you think this is better and what kind of fish can I get for a 10 gallon tank?
Thanks!

I was wondering how many fish, and what type of fish would thrive in a 5 gallon tank? I have a 10 gallon but I'm thinking about also getting a second one, probably around 5 gallons, but I don't know about too many fish that would do okay in such a small tank. Any suggestions?

My two moor goldfish seem to have a fungus. I just put in the Tank Buddies fungus clear, and followed the directions to take the carbon out of the filter. However, the instructions don't seem to say when to put it back in. Should I wait for a few hours, a day, or longer? Has anyone used this product before or knows when to put the carbon back in? Also, should I feed normally while the medicine is in there? Thanks!
